1.) What was you favorite book as a child?
OK, I'm going to date myself here. We lived two blocks from the neighborhood library, so we went often. When I saw this question, the first books that flashed into my mind were Flicka, Dicka, Ricka, and Snipp, Snapp, Snurr, two series begun in the 1920s by Maj Lindman, a Swedish writer (thank you, Wikipedia). I read those books for years.

2.) What was your favorite candy as a child?
I don't remember.

3.) What was your favorite toy as a child?
The first one that comes to mind is a giant doll, probably the size of a 3-year-old. They were all the rage; I got one for Christmas one year.

4.) What was your favorite movie as a child?
I don't remember going to the movies much.

5.) What was your favorite restaurant as a child?
The only place my family ever went was the Blue Boar cafeteria. It was pretty good, but the best part was the competition to add up all the individual meal tickets in our heads and see who was right when we went to the cash register.

1.) What was you favorite book as a child?
I have always loved books! My book hoarding started early. I still remember going to the library with my class, and the librarian took me to a different section and introduced me to chapter books. I read B is for Betsy, and I loved it. From then on, I was a chapter book fan. I even have a copy the library discarded.

2.) What was your favorite candy as a child?
I loved the mini Reeces cups. Strangely enough, I don’t care for them now.

3.) What was your favorite toy as a child?
I carried my Baby Crissy doll around forever. When it got in rough shape, my parents bought me a second one, and then I carried both. Barbies were a close second.

4.) What was your favorite movie as a child?
I only remember going to see Lady & the Tramp in a re-release. We just didn’t go to the movies when I was little.

5.) What was your favorite restaurant as a child?
I don’t know that I had one. I always liked grown-up food, so it wasn’t a kid friendly restaurant, I know. Probably breakfast place or a seafood place from vacations.

Is it crazy that I really don't know the answers to any of these? Have I blocked out my childhood? OK. Here is what I do remember

1. The Monster at the End of This Book
I still love it. Grover is hilarious in that book!
2. I remember butterscotch candy from my mom's friend's house (actually a sorority house--she was the house mom) and M&Ms from the lady at church.
3. I loved the artwork in the game Masterpiece.
4. E.T.?? I don't really remember going to the movies.
5. The only restaurants I remember going to as a child are McDonald's and Cracker Barrel.

So if I overthink these, I'll never come up with an answer to any of them, so I'm putting what the first thing is that pops into my head.

1. Are You There God, It's Me Margaret by Judy Blume
2. This is a tough one - I guess regular Hershey bars.
3. I got rollerskates one Christmas - the rubber wheels and rubber stoppers and big pom poms tied on them. LOVED those.
4. I'm gonna go with Grease, although now I don't really care about it.
5. Beefsteak Charlie's. Loved the all-you-can-eat peel & eat shrimp.

Childhood favorites

Favorite book....a tie between Black Beauty and Tom Sawyer, both of which I read and reread countless times. And cried every time I read about poor Ginger, the mistreated horse. I carried those two books through countless moves and to a foreign country and back until they fell apart.

Favorite candy....anything made from tamarind. (Although born in the Northeast, I spent a good part of my childhood in Mexico).

Favorite toy, and also my most prized possession...my trusty bicycle.

Favorite movie.... Ben Hur, which made a tremendous impression on me.

Favorite restaurant....I can't remember any in particular since we didn't eat out often. Going to any restaurant was a treat!

PS. Lazy Lake, I love the book A Tree Grows in Brooklyn! I didn't find and read it until I was a young adult, and wish I had read it sooner.

1.) What was you favorite book as a child?

As a very young child, Grimm's Fairy Tales, Rapunzel was my favorite. As an older elementary school child, Thirteen by Francine Pascal was a book I read maybe 50 times from age 10 - 14.

2.) What was your favorite candy as a child?

Twix. It is still my favorite

3.) What was your favorite toy as a child?

I played with Barbies and Gem and the Holograms dolls a lot.

4.) What was your favorite movie as a child?

That is almost impossible to answer with just one film, but I can live with saying The Sound of Music. The Ten Commandments is a close second.

5.) What was your favorite restaurant as a child?

There was a locally owned pizza place that had the tastiest pizza and sit-down PacMan games to play.
