Clip to ScrapBook #1

A school in my main district burned down about a month ago. They've relocated everyone to an empty building, but are (obviously!) still getting organized there. So they've designated this Wednesday as a non-student day and hired a bunch (I assume) of subs, including me, to help teachers unpack boxes and make their classrooms feel like "home" again in the new building.

The automated voice instruction thingy in Smartfind Express said to "dress appropriately." What do you think that means? Are jeans and sneakers OK?

I would assume that means jeans and sneakers since you are going to be hauling boxes and things like that BUT if it were me...I would call and make sure

Thanks for the tips. I went with the jeans and sneakers, and I'm glad I did (especially the sneakers!).

It was a good day. We were hauling and unpacking boxes of stuff they'd salvaged from the old building, so it was really fun to see the teacher find things she thought had been lost. She even found a set of special dolls that a girl had brought in for show-and-tell on the day of the fire, that the little girl had really been missing.

Also, the teacher I was assigned to help said she's having dental surgery or something in January and will probably need lots of subs. And she's retiring at the end of the year...it's always nice to have a heads-up on these things. And the new location is a 10-minute bus ride from my house (the old building was halfway across town), so that's super-exciting.

ETA, just because it's nice to share positives once in awhile: They also gave everyone tons of free food today--basically breakfast and lunch. I couldn't eat most of it, but it was nice that it was there. And, randomly, I met a teacher who is from the tiny little town that borders on the tiny little town I am from, 3000 miles from here. Crazy, huh?
