It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ Will Not Air on TV This Year

For the last 20 years, ABC has been airing It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The Peanuts Halloween special, however, will not air on cable this year. Hardcore fans of Brown, Snoopie, and the gang can thank AppleTV+ for no Peanuts on cable this Halloween.

Apple’s streaming service now has the rights to the Peanuts TV specials. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is now available to stream, but only to stream on Apple. From October 30th to November 1st, the streaming service is making the Brown classic available for free.

I will miss watching it on TV.

Charlie Brown is my man...

Charlie Brown is my man, so I bought IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN and A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS on DVD many years ago.

But you're right. Bummer city. There's something about watching those things with the seasonal commercials on a regular network broadcast.

A viewer just can't trust the entertainment barons

That's not right. 2020 sure does suck. I remember watching this every year. I can only assume that everyone has access to this on APple...NOT.

It will be offered for free for specific time periods. Same with Thanksgiving and Christmas.

It’s part of AppleTV making a deal with Peanuts Corporation to create new content based on Schulz’s characters (which I am very much NOT in favor of).

We lucked out this year because we got a year of AppleTV since DH got a new phone recently. My 18 y.o. DS who has autism LOVES all the Charlie Brown specials and look forward to them at the holidays. After this free year, we won't renew Apple TV+ because honestly, we NEVER watch it. Might have to go old school and order the DVDs.

Seems like another layer of my childhood is evaporating. Another tradition bites the dust.

My sister loves Charlie Brown and watches all of the specials. I like that they were on, but didn't watch them. Nostalgia I guess. I'm disappointed for her because she will not have access to Apple TV. I also don't like the idea of new content being made with the Peanuts characters because it will not be the same. It can't have the same innocence because we live in a different time.

That's too bad! I'm glad you can still stream it for free on Apple, but I agree, there was something about it on being on tv!

I wasn't happy when I read about this. I mean this time of year deserves Charlie Brown. It should be the law.
