1. Do you still write letters/greeting cards and send them via the USPS? Yes, several birthday cards to family and also cards at the holidays.

2. Do you pay your bills via online banking or send payment by check via USPS?
Most bills are online, but I may have to pay about 6 a year by a check in the mail.

3. When mailing a package, do you use the USPS or another shipper like FedEx or UPS?
Always use USPS, just mailed DS a birthday package and it made it across country in 4 days, for $7. No complaints.

4. Do you buy stamps at your local post office, grocery store, Costco, or via the USPS website?
local post office.

5. How far is a post office from your home?
It's about a mile. I have a post office box, and receive most of my packages there too. My postmistress is wonderful. She knows our street address (even though we don't get home delivery) and is able to route all packages to us.

6. How far from your home is an actual USPS mailbox?
Same, one mile - it's at the post office.

7. Do you receive your mail at home? Neighborhood mailbox? Post Office box?
No mail at home; we use a P.O. Box.

8. When was the last time you went into the post office? Reason?
I go twice a week to get our mail.

1. Do you still write letters/greeting cards and send them via the USPS?

Yes, cards all the time, letters for legal matters mostly.

2. Do you pay your bills via online banking or send payment by check via USPS?
Believe it or not, we still cannot pay our gas bills online!
I also cannot pay my car payment online b/c I don't have an account with that bank. Many of my older friends, including my sweetie, are not online and pay all of their bills via the USPS. Otherwise, I do everything online.

3. When mailing a package, do you use the USPS or another shipper like FedEx or UPS?

I have had an eBay store for 14 years. My preferred shipper is USPS, because they are CHEAPER and more RELIABLE, always.

4. Do you buy stamps at your local post office, grocery store, Costco, or via the USPS website?

I buy stamps at the USPS.

5. How far is a post office from your home?

My beautiful old thirties era USPS is about a 1.5 mile walk from my house.

6. How far from your home is an actual USPS mailbox?

I think the closest mailbox is also at the USPS.

7. Do you receive your mail at home? Neighborhood mailbox? Post Office box?

I get mail via truck at a country-style mailbox in front of my house. I live in town, but there are no sidewalks in this development, which is fairly new.

8. When was the last time you went into the post office? Reason?

I went on Monday to send out an eBay purchase to CA, and on Wednesday to mail a care package to a friend of my biological daughter's in MO and a birthday gift to my acquired daughter in CO. I almost always use the priority mail flat rate option, which are supposed to take two days. The Wednesday packages said "Expected delivery on Saturday or Monday," so we are definitely seeing a slowdown. I also dropped off a birthday card at the Post Office for a friend.

We use the postal service a lot in this house. Three people order a lot and although we've gotten rid of much junk mail, some still comes. We've never had a problem with the drivers. One asked if she could pick some of the apples from our heirloom tree that we had in Georgia and I told her of course. She made jam and gave me a jar. It was delicious.

2. All my monthly bills are on autodeduct. I still write checks for property taxes (thereís a fee for paying online) and annual auto/home insurance.

7. I get my mail in a locked mailbox in the lobby of my condo.

Thanks for responses so far. I am enjoying reading them. Thought I would let others get started before I posted.

1. I do still send cards but rarely a real letter via snail mail anymore. With my mom and older relatives gone, no one seems to enjoy the art of letter writing. My dad and I communicate via email. His preferred method.

2. I have a few bills (ADT and AT&T) I put on our MC which I pay off in full monthly. Otherwise I pay our phone, electric, MC, etc by check.

3. I use either USPS or UPS. Depends on the item and cost. I can mail either way at "the package store."

4. Pre-COVID I would buy stamps from the grocery store or PO. I recently bought stamps by mail via USPS for the first time and despite the delay it was convenient and a good experience.

5. Nearest PO was 3 miles away in a historic general store. Store has since been sold and PO removed so now the closest is in town 12 miles away.

6. Closest mailbox is 7 miles away at a bank.

7. Our mail comes to our street mailbox.

8. Haven't been to the PO since pre-COVID to send a piece of registered mail.

1. Yes, we mail cards! Just send a kitty condolence card to sisters in law.
2. Mostly online. There are a few we send in mail.
3. Usually the USPS. We have grands in Switzerland and it is much cheaper than UPS!
4. We buy stamps at Post Office.
5. One direction...5 minutes. Other direction...5 minutes!
6. Probably 5 minutes
7. Mail received at home. Rural route!
8. Probably to buy stamps or mail a package.

My nearest mailbox is 0.5 miles away. I walked to it this morning to drop a bill in the mail. I've purchased stamps within the last month at the PO that is 1 mile away, but there is a small PO Box only facility 0.5 miles from my house. Yes, I still send letters and packages via USPS and have only used UPS once in the past year for an oddly shaped package that I had them box up for me.

I view the USPS as a vital service to the American public. I'll leave my other views for another board.

Hi Zipline!

1. I only send Mother's Day/Father's Day and a few birthday cards by USPS.

2. About half of our bills were already automatic drafts from the bank. We used to have greatly varying electric bills. A summer month with chicken houses could create an electric bill of $2000 or more, so electric was never automatically drafted! Now that our electric bill is just the house, I recently moved all the remaining bills except the credit card to automatic draft. That makes me look hard at the credit card bill. We often have our card stolen, they assume at gas stations.

3. UPS is much farther away than the Post Office. We're receiving more things through Fed Ex now, though. The drivers used to have to drive 1.5 hrs to get to our house. Now they are as close as the UPS distribution place 50 miles away. The UPS man and the dog are friends now.

4. The rural mail carrier gives us a reusable orange envelope with printed postage prices on it. We mark how many we'd like, put a check in it and he'll leave what we want in the envelope. Frustrating when postage increases without our knowledge and we have to leave a few cents extra for him the next time to pay him back. He WILL leave the more expensive stamps, though.

5. The post office is 7 miles away.

6. Our mailbox is at the end of our gravel driveway 1/4 mile away.

7. Our mailbox is at the end of our driveway. Makes for a nice walk as long as mama cows aren't out there with their new babies!

8. The only time I go to the Post Office is to mail a package. Did that a few weeks ago.

1. Do you still write letters/greeting cards and send them via the USPS?
No.

2. Do you pay your bills via online banking or send payment by check via USPS?
All utilities are autopay. Everything else is paid online.

3. When mailing a package, do you use the USPS or another shipper like FedEx or UPS?
It depends. We only have USPS here. There isn't another shipping option.
I have to drive to the next county (40 miles round trip) for either of those.

4. Do you buy stamps at your local post office, grocery store, Costco, or via the USPS website?
Post office. We don't have a store in town that has stamps. I've gotten boxes from the USPS site, but not postage.

5. How far is a post office from your home?
Two miles, maybe?

6. How far from your home is an actual USPS mailbox?
The only one is in front of the post office.

7. Do you receive your mail at home? Neighborhood mailbox? Post Office box?
I have rural delivery to a box by my driveway.

8. When was the last time you went into the post office? Reason?
I went Wednesday to mail some stuff I sold.

1. I send letters/greeting cards via the USPS. Although I mostly use email now, I still correspond with several friends by snail mail. We have been doing this since the late 1960s, and the letters end up being historical documents. One of my friends gave me back a couple of them that I had written in '67-'68 and they are hilarious. Receiving a handwritten letter is a real treat, although we now mostly type since our handwriting has deteriorated.

I usually hand my outgoing mail to the mail carrier.

2. I pay my bills via online banking.

3. I use USPS to mail packages.

4. I buy stamps at my local post office.

5. How far is a post office from your home? I'm right between two post offices, one is 2.4 miles and the other 2.3 miles.

6. How far from your home is an actual USPS mailbox? 2 miles

7. I receive my mail at home.

8. I was at the post office last week to mail new masks to DD.

1. Do you still write letters/greeting cards and send them via the USPS?
No

2. Do you pay your bills via online banking or send payment by check via USPS?
Not anymore. Since Covid i pay all my bills online

3. When mailing a package, do you use the USPS or another shipper like FedEx or UPS?
USPS because there are no FedEx or UPS drop boxes in my town

4. Do you buy stamps at your local post office, grocery store, Costco, or via the USPS website?
Use to buy at Walgreens, but they stopped doing that. I bought my last pack at USPS, but in the future will buy online.

5. How far is a post office from your home?
Three blocks.

6. How far from your home is an actual USPS mailbox?
Three blocks (outside the post office)

7. Do you receive your mail at home? Neighborhood mailbox? Post Office box?
Mailbox on on the curb.

8. When was the last time you went into the post office? Reason?
April? To send back a pair of pants I had ordered in the wrong size

I should also qualify that my post office is only open about 9-12 through the week and 10-12 on the weekends. When school was in person I would only be able to mail items on Saturday or at mailbox or drop box by school. If I were at home and had something urgent to mail outside the limited hours, I would have to drive about 10 miles to the next nearest post office.

Also, USPS does about 80 percent of the last legs of anything I get that is shipped via FedEx or UPS. Basically anything about 10 pounds or less or anything that does not ride on a truck with fridges.
