I loved my bike! Also I loved my sled, toboggan and skis and ice skates. I was pretty active as a kid. I also loved playing cards and Scrabble when I had to sit still.

My beautiful hobby horse! Also our dinosaur set. Ice skates. Barbie.

I still have a little pixie doll with a red slumber suit and Santa hat that my grandmother gave me when I was little.

I was a Barbie girl...it was the 60's.. Ken, Skipper, Midge, and several Barbies. I must have been easy to shop for as long as it was Barbie related. I remember over the years getting her dream house, car, swimming pool and just about every outfit made. The funny thing is I have no idea where they all went.

Sigh...I was always most happy when my nose was in a new book! And I loved the chemistry set I got for my birthday in sixth grade. But I wasn't much of a toy lover...

A memorable toy

I think it was the Christmas when I was five years old that I got a doctor's kit--red plastic case, stethoscope, a bottle of "pills" (candy), needle, the little hammer for checking reflexes...I played with that quite a lot.

I also remember loving my Lincoln logs, tinkertoys, spirograph, legos. We played a lot of different board games, and I read a lot too.

That's when I was indoors. We played outside a lot.

Definitely my roller skates. From the age of 8 until around 14 or 15 I owned one pair of roller skates that grew along with me. They were the kind that had a key so you could expand them two ways to accommodate your shoes. No boots back then, but the wheels were made of high-end rubber composite. They were silent unlike the metal wheels that some of my friends had. I covered many miles with those skates.

We mostly got clothes for Christmas. One year I was given a Shirley Temple doll. My mom made lots of clothes for her. Christmas stockings were more fun than presents.

My all time favorite toy was my roller skates. I practically wore the wheels off of them. They were the old kind that you used a key to tighten to your shoes. They were very practical (adjustable) and I used them for a lot of years. Another favorite was my Liddle Kiddles dolls. I had the great idea to make a treasure hunt and buried one of my kiddles in the back yard. Unfortunately, I never found it again!

Through the years my favorite toy changed, of course. I had a large stuffed Lassy with a real leather nose, Mr. Potato Head when you needed a real potato from your mother, a Tiny Tears doll, magic 8 ball, and as many mentioned, my bike. Life was much simpler. We had a little brook, some woods, a sledding hill, chickens, a pony, lots of chores, and freedom to roam. (As long as we came running when Mom called out the back door- boy if you missed hearing her, she came looking for you with a willow switch in her hand. I ALWAYS came running, but my brother.... well he took a while to get with the program, ouch.)

PS We probably are giving very clear indications of exactly how old we are with these lists.

You all have named many of my favorites, but I also would include Lite Brite!
Lite-Brite is a toy that was originally marketed in 1967. It consists of a light box with small colored plastic pegs that fit into a panel and illuminate to create a lit picture, by either using one of the included templates or creating a 'freeform' image on a blank sheet of black paper.
I had so much fun making my own free images!!! I thought it was like making my own Christmas tree!!

I loved my Easy Bake oven ( still have it 50 years later!). I also had a Baby Bareskin doll that was special. Of course I played with my Barbie, Skipper, and (their littlest sister) Tuttie dolls. My bike had a Varoom motor that I loved, but my older sister was embarrassed to be with me when I turned it on. Ahhhh....the good old days!

Loved so many of the things that you all loved: Barbie and her entourage, Liddle Kiddles with their Klubhouse, Raggedy Ann, ice skates, sleds and a shiny new bike with a bell and a basket! What delightful Christmases we had!

But my favorite of all time was the Mattel Thingmaker Mini Dragon set. You poured liquid "Plastigoop" into metal molds and cooked them on this hotplate device. Then you put the pieces together to make a variety of dragon creatures! Messy, smelly and an excellent chance of burning yourself! It was a gift from my older brother and I'm just astounded, looking back, that my parents allowed me to use that thing! So much fun!

Although I thought of my bike more as a necessity like a car is to an adult, it was my favorite childhood possession so therefore also my favorite "toy." My brother and I both rode our bikes on a daily basis to school and all over the city where we lived. Thankfully, my mother trusted us and gave us as much freedom as we could possibly want.

My bike was a girl's style royal blue three speed Raleigh. I thought it was beautiful!

My favorite "toy" from when I was a kid was definitely my bicycle. Schwinn 10 speed. It gave me that first taste of freedom.

I had a beautiful Madam Alexander doll that I LOVED. She was so beautiful with her perfect face and hair! And her clothes! They were amazing. I remember her gorgeous red satin dress. That was the dress she was wearing when Santa delivered her to me!
