Proud of my brother

Clip to ScrapBook #1

My brother started teaching Math the year I started first grade. He was the oldest son. I am the youngest daughter. We have always been very close. When he retired after 39 years of teaching, he never stopped working on something. He is constantly donating his time to family, church, and the community. He is also an amazing carpenter. He has built elaborate bookcases, china cupboards, dining room tables and numerous wall hangings created from wood. He also refinishes furniture. Last winter, he decided to create wooden trucks. I am amazed at the details he added to them. I wanted to attach a picture but I can't seem to make it work. Anyway, I just wanted to share what can be accomplished after retirement. It is grand.

is wonderful isn't it? To be able to speak so beautifully about your brother is so moving. I hope you can get a picture up soon! Bless you both.

It's wonderful that he can use his skills and talents to bring joy to children!

It reminds me of my great-grandfather, Otto...he was a carpenter all his life, making mostly furniture and coffins. But he loved to make wooden toys! He would take a bunch of toys to the local hospital every year in New Ulm, MN for the children. He also made "Christmas gardens" with little houses that had lights inside, and a skating pond, and a creche...lots of detail and beautiful! I still have a little doll crib he made for my mother when she was a girl. My brother has the cabinet he made my mom for her dolly dishes. It has drawers and glass doors! Perfect size for a child, and so much nicer than those plastic things you can buy in the stores these days...

I hope your brother has many more years of creativity!

I guess I was missing him more than usual when I about him. He has been spending a lot of time out of state with his grandchildren this summer and fall. He really is a wonderful man. Thanks for all of your kind words.
