My DH is still working and gets up early. He leaves for work at 5:30. Hard to sleep after he's up so instead of just getting up, I've been getting my coffee, climbing back in bed with it, listening to the radio, and checking PT. Very relaxing!

I'm one of those crazy morning people so I easily get up and stay up as my dh is getting ready for work. I must admit, as much as I love him, I also kind of like when he leaves for work and I have the rest of the nice, quiet morning all to myself.

Love my DH, but I love when he gets up early to go swimming and run errands or have coffee (or both) and I lollygag around in pjs drinking tea, watching shows I've recorded, or reading the paper, checking e mail, etc. Then I finally get going. And I have ALWAYS been an early morning person. Actually I get up before he does, but I don't get the old engine going as quickly.

Yes! I can so relate to your kick back morning routine. After retiring, I made a rule that I needed to be dressed and ready for the day by 10:00....most days!

Glad you found something enjoyable and relaxing to do after your DH leaves for work! I sometimes hear mine leave around 7 and I just roll over and go right back to sleep! That is my new, no, my old normal!

Choice is absolutely the best part of retirement. Choosing how to long to sleep and when to wake up has made a huge difference for me. I'm not constantly exhausted, stressed, and always on the edge of crankiness. I'm no longer guzzling caffeine in order to be alert and ready for the daily stresses of teaching. Being well-rested makes it easier for me to smile and be happy.
