My Christmas Sweaters

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I've been seeing all of these ugly Christmas sweaters on TV and it's bringing back memories of Christmas sweaters of my past. I confess that years ago I wore Christmas sweaters to school. Today they would definitely qualify for the ugly Christmas sweater contests. One had kittens that were tangled up in sequined Christmas lights. I had earrings and a light up Christmas bulb necklace that I'd wear with the sweater. Seriously!

Is anyone else guilty of wearing ugly Christmas sweaters?

Do you wonder if they're winning any prizes?

I had a few of my own. I still have two. I do not usually wear them, but that is more due to the weather than anything else. They are not exactly like the sweaters that people wear now. They actually have buttons on them!

I had 4 jumpers with holiday fabric, two holiday shirts, and several sweaters. Oh yes some funky socks too. Add in an assortment of light bulb earrings, necklaces, and pins from students and I looked like Mrs. Holiday the entire month. Everyday my 1st graders would comment on how beautiful I looked. The ugly Christmas sweater parties have made me self conscious about my former December wardrobe.

Of course I had seasonal attire --- I taught little kids.
Let's also remember that these sweaters/vests etc were quite fashionable at the time.

I still have a Christmas sweatshirt that I wear around the house when it is really cold.

The current fad is to call them ugly sweaters --- but they are still wearing them.

Oh yes, we all went for loud sweaters even after the 90's were over. I had mine lined up in the closet behind the ones with pumpkins and leaves. And then came the more generic snowflake and snowman sweatshirts for January.....

I taught high school, so I mercifully escaped the need to wear holiday attire. However, I have a largish wardrobe of maroon and gold shirts (school colors)! (And maroon not my best color!)

I taught first grade so I had an array of Christmas sweaters, turtlenecks, jumpers...etc. I gave them all to Goodwill except on long sleeve tee shirt with a picture of Santa shopping. I still wear it. I had clothes for every holiday. Remember when vests were in style?....I had bunch of those too. I also had a bunch of animal necklaces that I would wear when we did an animal unit in Science. I had a dress with animals all over it .

I was such a freak!

Ahh...Irish's post reminded me of those horrid jumpers! My kids did an intervention and made me get rid of them a few years ago. The consignment shop didn't even want them. But boy were they comfy! All the holiday earrings are just about gone too. Christmas sweaters-all I have left is a lovely soft red cardigan. My "school" wardrobe had a number of items I'd never wear anywhere else.

Holiday sweaters were quite the fashion for a while there and I had a nice collection. My favorite was a bright blue one trimmed in bright red. It had a big picture of a school bus on the front and back with a big Christmas tree on top. It was hideous even when they were in style. Both my kids have won prizes at "ugly sweater" parties while wearing it. I still have a couple of favorites tucked away. If I live long enough, they'll eventually be back in style.

Even though I teach elementary school (three more school days until retirement!) I have never worn Christmas sweaters. Seasonal attire is not my thing.

So many of us dressed for the "season". I was among them with holiday tops/skirts/jumpers/jewelry. Those items definitely seemed to go with all the denim that we teachers wore. Glad those days are over!

I'm really glad that seems to be no photographic evidence of my wardrobe while teaching. I must have been a walking bulletin board.
Jewelry.
Button covers.
Embroidered blouses.
Sweatshirts.
Jumpers.
In all seriousness, I wore a flashing Christmas necklace and flashing Halloween necklace but I'm sure I didn't wear them at the same time.
