Beach Theme Job Chart
Old 07-07-2008, 09:56 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have a beach theme in my classroom and need some help from all the creative people on here for my job chart. The only one I can find is the Handy Helpers with the Octopus and I'm having trouble finding a large octopus and I dont draw very well to make my own. If anyone has any ideas as to what I can use I would appreciate it. Thanks!!

Jammin' Jobs!
Old 07-07-2008, 10:04 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #3

I did a beach theme for my jobs board last year and I used the title "Jammin' Jobs". Each student was given a copy of a pair of board shorts (bathing suit trunks) to decorate. I added a palm tree and some sand and a sun. I listed my classroom job titles above each pair of board shorts for the kids to choose from. This was also in last years or maybe the year before Aug/Sept. Mailbox Magazine. I added to their original idea. hope that helps!

I don't know what level you teach but for lower elementary, you could have each student trace their hand (palm is octopus body & fingers are tenticles) to make their own octopus and then move them around different seaweed-jobs.

"Dig In"

When I did a beach type theme in my class room I used pails with the jobs on it and put the students names on shovels. I titled it "Dig In''. I put it on a blue background to look like the sky and used sandpaper along the bottom to look like sand. I also put shells on it. Here is a picture of it.

How about fishing for help and using fish? Or a sea full of helpers and use starfish, shells, fish etc.

Couldn't Open Your Job Titles

Do you by any chance still have your job titles? I'm doing a luau theme again this year and have a little more time to get more involved with it. I'd like to make all my classroom jobs follow this theme as well. If you still have them, could you please send them to me? My school email is petersond@wcschools.com and you can just title them Beach Job Titles or along those lines so I can allow it through SPAM. Thanks!

This is a picture of what my job board looked like last year -- try the file again and let me know if it doesn't work, because it worked fine for me...

What Job Titles Did You Use?

Did your job titles pertain to your theme? If so, what were they? I'm trying to think of cute ones that go along with a Hawaiian/Luau theme...

I'm doing a beach theme. I'm using the octopus ("Helping Hands") for mine. Our jobs are "Ship Captian" (line leader), "First Mate" (Teacher helper), "Deckhand" (wash hands/erase boards), "Swordfish (pencil sharpener), "Lobster Librarian" (sort books), "Crabby Computer Tech." (turn computers on/off), "Fish Feeder" (pretty self explanatory we've got an aquarium), and "Calendar Calypso" (will write the date/weather/etc. every morning).

Some of those may not work with the luau theme, though...
