Morning Message in Kindergarten

Most kindergarteners are not reading at the beginning of the year. How do you write the Morning Message? Do you include lots of pictures or do you just keep to a very short message and read it to them?

Have you tried to google search "kindergarten messages" on the RC site? I bet you might find some samples.

K Morning Message

In K, we were taught to keep it very simple and repetitive - follow the same sentence frame for the first few weeks and read it to them, they will quickly catch on and read it before you! For example,
Good Morning ___________.
Today is ____________.
We have art.

Then you should ask a question, like, "Do you have a sister?" the kids can ask by tally marks with your guidance.

That was the format we used for the first couple of months, adding a little as they learned to read...

Have fun!

I taught K this year and I agree with starting off short.

A survey question works well in the beginning of the year.

You can google "Kindergarten survery questions" and lots of great stuff come up!

Good luck and have a fun year in K!

Here's how I do the morning message

Clip to ScrapBook #5

I've taken pictures of the specialist teachers. I use their picture in the morning message. This helps the students get use to other important faces and names around our school. So the message looks something like this.

Good morning girls, (it's an all girls school)
Today is Monday. We will go to music with Mrs. Clarke (picture of Mrs. Clarke goes here).
Have a great day!
XOXOX Mrs. Smith (my name)

I'll keep the same format for the first week or 2. Then I'll switch it up to make it interactive:

Good morning ladies,
Today is __onday. We will go to __usic with Mrs. Clarke (picture of Mrs. Clarke).
Have a marvelous __onday!
Love, Mrs. Smith

By January, The message looks something like this:

Hi lovely ladies,
How was your weekend? What did you do? Today is Mon__ay, _anuary 12, 20___. We will go to music after lunch. We will also go to gym.
Have a super duper day!
Lots and lots and lots of love,
Mrs. Smith.

The messages are typed on the smartboard so the messages can be as short or as long as I like.
