Do you think it is appropriate to use the term “Buddy” in a report card comment?

Wondering what others think.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I wouldn't personally use it, but I don't think it's inappropriate.

I personally would not use it on a report card. Just doesn’t sound professional to me. I’m retired now but our one principal would always look over our report cards. If he saw “buddy” on a report card I can guarantee he would ask whoever wrote it to change it to the student’s name.

I find it too informal and unprofessional.

Appropriate vs. preference

I don't see it as inappropriate, but it's not my preference. I don't necessarily see anything wrong with it. Personally, it would make me want to gag (just because friend/friends, buddy, etc. for students really does make me gag), but it's because of my personal preferences and personality, not because I find it inappropriate, if that makes sense.

Not inappropriate, but not necessarily my word choice.

I wouldn’t use it. In fact I completely forgot to do the behaviors in Power School! Oops! I do write comments about some grades as I put them in. I don’t call kids buddy, but if it is the norm for this teacher than I think it is fine.

Not to be sexist, but.... I can picture our young male P.E. teacher using "Buddy" in his comments, but I'm not sure if he even writes comments.

I might call a student “buddy” but I wouldn’t write it on a report card either.

I might say it, but would never write it. It does not seem professional for a formal document like a report card.

Seems odd to spell it out on a report card.
Saying it out loud is not so.

Oh good lord, no! Completely unprofessional - to th3 level of earning a meeting with the principal to discuss your suitability for the job.

I was checking last year’s grades for a student I was referring for educational testing.

Thanks for all the replies and sharing your thoughts.
