Ruler work quilt

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I took an online course from Sew Steady University. It was a Quilt as You Go quilt that was designed to introduce the sewist to a variety of techniques and templates. I learned a lot and transferred the learning to some other projects so far. If I were to do it again I would use all solid fabrics so the designs showed up better, but I just wanted to use fabrics I had on hand. By matching the thread to the fabric my mistakes are less noticeable!

It's lovely! I'm also fond of the colors. Sew Steady University is new to me; an interesting place to poke around.

Sew Steady offers a number of free classes if you look under the Sew Steady University. I have not taken any of the free classes, yet.

We really donít have any place to put this project so I tossed it on the bed ( even though it is too small) and I guess it is cat approved

Peaches Pears - don't feel intimidated. I'm beginning to try ruler work. I'm still just practicing. Nothing that looks like Cat woman's but I keep getting more comfortable with it and each time it gets a little better. Give it a try!

I agree that ruler work may look intimidating, but it is actually easier than it looks and the results even surprised me! The instructor in the online course was really good (Leonie West). I used the Westalee Template Sampler Set and the 12” arc ruler to do all these designs. The spacing gauge was good to have also.

One sort of fun thing to do was to practice a design on a large sheet of paper using Stitching Lines Discs.

I feel with the templates I have I can do quite a bit, but of course I have purchased a few more anyway!

The class is considered free if you purchase the template set ($65) and you would need a few other things but I think it still only cost under $100. For me it was well worth the hours of fun I had with it

Just to pique your interest, here is a link to the page with the course

I love the colors and the idea of ruler quilting. I quilted a few years ago, but never heard of ruler quilting. Smart.
