SMART Board Activities

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I found out that I am getting a SMART board this year, which I am really excited about. Unfortunately, the training is only a couple of days before school starts.

I would love to find some activities to use with it. I saw you can buy programs to create your own activities/lessons. Is there any websites that have great lessons to use? Free would be wonderful, but I would be willing to pay for activities if it is worth it.

If you have purchased any that you love, I would like to hear about those too.

I am in second grade if that helps.

When you get it all hooked up, I believe that Smartexchange comes with it. I'm not sure if it was put on ours or what , but check that out..it has everything you could possibly need for any lesson, any grade..its awesome. Of course there are things you could buy, but DONT..there's too much free stuff out there..
One of the things I love is www.henryanker.com . If that's not it, google henry anker..there are a million free things but you need to have the smartboard software on your computer.

I just clicked on the link and it's not only for the smartboard, you can use it on your class computer, but I put it up on my smartboard and use it with the class.

There is a group on PT called "SMART teachers." Here you can find websites and also help if you need it once you get started.

Have fun!

I second the Smart exchange website. There is so much there to use and adapt and it is free. If you don't have the software on your computer, there is a website that will open the notebook files that you download. It is called smart notebook express. You can't always see everything in the file with it though. Lakeshore has some great interactive software for smart boards but it gets expensive.

I am getting a smartboard also. They "hope" to have it installed before school starts. It has been sitting in the closet down the hall for 2+ weeks. I am sooo wanting to be able to play before school starts!!

Download Notebook 11!

The software for Smart boards is what makes them so appealing & engaging. If you download Notebook 11 (newest version) you can create files, lesson plans and insert items from the interactive toolkit in the Gallery. It's easy to do but will take some time because the Gallery file is so huge. Be patient and you will enjoy it!

I suggest that you try it out and play with it. The Smart Exchange website is also a valuable resource. You can look up lessons plans by grade level, topic & standard. It great when you are first getting started and haven't learned all the ins-and-outs of the program. It helps me to spark my imagination and creativity.

The training will help you feel more confident with using it. Please remember that it's OK for students to use the board. Too often Smart boards are simply used as a glorified t.v. which defeats the purpose of the interactive technology.

All of the ideas listed are great. I will also google what I need and usually come up with great things created by other teachers.

Yep..totally agree from having them start it up to logging out and shutting down and everything in between. They love using the tools!
