6th grade readers at risk

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Yesterday, we had an inservice and went over state reading test scores. My principal decided to take the "at risk" students (ones who did not do well on the test in 5th grade) and put them in my room. I will have the reading specialist and the resource teacher in the room with me. I would like to hear how you have used all of these teachers in one room to the best practice. We went over items that the kids struggled with and now it is up to us to do some high level strategies to help them succeed. I love the challenge but just want to make sure we are using our team to the best practice. I would love to hear how others have worked as a Reading team. Thanks

give an assessment to see where they are weak...fluency, comprehension, decoding, phonics, etc. Group students based on their weakness then do small groups to target specific deficits.

Aimsweb might have an assessment for you.

Daily 5 might be good too. Check out the Peony room.
