Boy, Oh Boys!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have a class with 15 boys this year! I'm looking for some good "series" chapter books to keep them reading, particularly my struggling readers. We have "Wimpy Kid" and lots of "Magic Treehouse", but I'm looking for new titles. Any suggestions? I seem to have plenty to keep my 8 girls happy!

I remember my son reading every "Goosebumps" book he could get his hands on-they were awful, but he loved reading them!

Thanks in advance!

RL Stine wrote another series totally for boys! It's about a school and I can't remember the name of the series but the first book is called "The Blueberry Barf-Off."

Captain Underpants, Ook and Gluk, and Super Diaper Baby.

Maybe the Wayside School series by Louis Sachar. There are only 4 books, I think, but they are fun.

My son still likes The Magic School Bus. Not the picture books, but the chapter book versions.

Flat Stanley

DS LOVES How To Train Your Dragon (10 book series).

There is a 6-volume Star Wars series (post Return of the Jedi) at about that level.

Graphic Novels and Others

There are many graphic novels that are perfect for third grade.
Scooby Doo series
Bone series
Big Nate series
Star Wars series
all kinds of graphic novels about super heros (Batman and Robin, Spiderman, etc.)
Redwall
Far Side series

I also suggest:
Nate the Great series
Geronimo Stilton series (I like to read the first one...builds background...the kids will read all the rest.)
Captain Underpants series
Big Nate (has graphic novels and others that are not graphic novels)
Rotten School series (by same author as Goosebumps)
Wimpy Kid series
Black Lagoon series
Bad Kitty series
Fly Guy series
Stink series (Judy Moody's brother)
Time Warp series
Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher (This author has others in the series. This is just the first title.)

Jerry Palotto WHO WILL WIN? books

Great non-fiction for boys--not chapter books but high interest for boys. Jerry Palotto visited our school today. He had the kids so involved in his hour and 10 minute presentation. Funny, interesting, shared the writing process and discussed how his books changed. If you are looking for a visiting author, check him out.
