What do we do for the summer?

I was wondering as a sub, we get the 3 months off in the summer like most people. Wish they'd go to year round but that's another story. Why cant we go to year round? Anyways, we have like 2 months left and then its summer for 3 months. What are we to do? I get very bored very quick staying inside. In fact, my depression is already coming back for spring break since I am not doing much. Any ideas?

Find another job for the summer.

For example, work in a day camp. Child care in someone's home. Lifeguard (assuming you have the swimming skills needed).

Lawncare or gardening.

Temp agency, filling in for people on summer vacations.

Take a summer school class.

Work on a hobby--like bike riding, woodwork, quilting, photography, birdwatching.

I tried working for summer school for a while, but finally grew tired of the cliques, poor organization, dumb rules, and oppressive summer heat.

Now I just save my tax refund and take summers off.

Not worth the aggravation.

I volunteer at the local hospice thrift store. I do this on days off during the year, as well.

I work year round for a big box home improvement center. It provides me with health (and vision and dental) insurance, discounts on stuff I buy there, annual raises, and increased hours in the summer (overtime!).

I put away part of my paycheck from Jan. to June to get us through the summer. Though this summer I may look into working for a tutoring agency.

Usually I save all school year so I can rest during the summer and not have to get a second job or teach summer school, but this year I might have to do one of those two things since the county panicked and shut all the schools down for three weeks.

It's really incredible. They do not care what happens to us during these periods of forced time off, but then they turn around and wonder why NOBODY wants to substitute teach. Incredible!

Exactly. What are we supposed to do to make money during this virus lockdown?

I'm out of work for five weeks with no pay.

Subs get screwed every time.
