I have fish cutouts with each child's name on it. I want to put a fishnet on my door with this inside. I need a catchy title. All I can think of is: A Great Catch! I would also like to include my last name in the theme as this is the beginning of the school year.
This doesn't answer your question, but it's something I did one year. I did fish glyph and they had to decorate the fish based on their answer to questions abou themself. It was a great getting to know you activity. The title was fishing for similarities. Good Luck!
I have been deciding between an underwater theme or a baseball theme for my classrom...totally different views however I was wondering if someone could give me more ideas on how to incorporate the fishy underwater theme into my classroom management. I am a 1st year teacher teaching second grade
I used four different colored fish with each child's name on each of the four colors. I did a bulletin board called "Fishing for Facts". When they could write the answers to all their + facts in 3 minutes, they got their red fish. When they could do all their - facts in three minutes, they got their blue fish etc. until they had all four.
I absolutly love that behavior management chart!!! I am going to do the same in my classroom if you don't mind. It looks like you drew your own fish. I am not able to draw anything, did you find templates online? I love the way your fish look--super cute!!
i also looked around your classroom through the picture and saw that you put your word wall letters on fish? ((i think)) im gonna do that too ahhahah i love itt..
im hooked on the fish theme!!!!
Can anyone think of a cool header for a weekly newsletter with fishes? Like a working hard, or something...ahh im so excited now
I have more pictures of my classroom on there under "classroom pictures 06-07". That's actually not my word wall in the background, but a board where I put papers with 100%. After 10 perfect papers, they come down and start over again. The kids get a certificate and a prize. I call it "Swimming into Success".
My word wall does have letters on fish. The consonants are on fish and the vowels are on starfish. They sell a pre-made kit from Carson Dellosa. I think it is $19.99.
I made the fish from the behavior board through clip art. I blew them up using Microsoft picture and printed them. If you search on google for fish clipart you'll find tons under the first link. The red fish was actually orginally orange, but I changed to red through painting it on the computer and I drew in the tears. If you need more help let me know.
anyone have any cute ideas for a job chart? Using the fish theme? i think thats the only thing im missing! or cute ideas for naming folders i.e homework, writing, etc.
Hi,
Im teaching the ocean for the first time, and your fish "getting to know you" activity sounds really cute. Is there any way ypu can email it to me?

I love the fish theme!!! Here is an idea for Helpers-
Fishing for Good Helpers". I also do an behavior management system where students pull "fish" from their pocket to the desinated pocket of the rule they broke. And at the end of the week I send home a "Fish Report" to parents to let them know how they are doing.
I love your classroom!!! I noticed that your centers look a little different in two pictures. One looks like you have the kids names on sticks and maybe the other on the fish itself. Could you explain? Which works best?
Here's the dumb question of the day. Where can I purchase fish netting to execute the darling ideas explained here in this thread. I am going with the "caught being good" and would like to know where to get the fish net. Ideas for obtaining this pirate/ocean/fish theme accent??????
Party stores have those things. I have never really done a theme in my classroom but I am inspired by all these wondeful ideas to take it to the FISH limit.
I showed my kids the FISH video last year and plan on doing it again as we are a school in crisis. It helped a little at least. So I figure the reinforcement of fish in the room can only help.
Not positive for the others but the FISH video I use is from the FISH for Schools. The people that do the FISH Philosophy have a whole program for schools that I am going to be using with my first grade class. Here is a link http://www.charthouse.com/content.aspx?nodeid=16741
Could I get the fish glyph too please. shayangel03@yahoo.com
I can share what I do with my word wall while I'm at it! I use the fishes and starfishes from another post. I then made little boats to float on top of my word wall. I added little fishing poles with a strip of brown const. paper and tied a long piece of yarn to it to hang down in between the letters. I added a pipe cleaner hook to the end and then put a brown pipe cleaner on the hook to look like a worm. The kids love it. At the top it says "Let's fish for words we know!"
Hi, I am a new user and I don't know what I am doing. And I feel silly because I do not know what a fish glyph is, but everyone seems to want it. I am starting my 2nd year of teaching and this year's theme is my class is a school of fish... can you please help me. Thanks.

HI teacherinfl!! I love your behavior management system with the fish in different colors.... do you have these on file? I have looked everyone on google and microsoft word and can't find anything!
Hi TeAcHeRinFL,
I'm a a first year teacher and I chose to do a ocean/fish theme this year for my class. I am making a behavior management chart for my kids based on the stoplight system (red, yellow, green). Originally, I was going to make a giant fish and have three colored pockets as the scales (one red, one yellow, one green) and have individual sticks or clips for each student. Then I saw your idea and I think it's fabulous and SO much easier to make. I can't find any clip art like the ones you have...I want to do a happy fish, fish with straight mouth, and then a sad fish as you did. Do you remember where you got those or do you have them saved?? Thanks!
Ok, this is totally off topic but I was reading about glyphs and then I noticed REB's avatar and now I can't think straight any longer. I'm just kinda in awe.........................sig h
Hey, can you send me an email explaining how you will use don't be afish caught out of water in your room? I would just like to know the system you'll be using Thank so much!
I am curios about the details of your behavior management system. What are your categories? Do you have standars listed? Also, what are you rules? Thank you
