I am looking for anything anyone has that they would be willing to share about a Frog and Toad literature unit. I am looking at using a variety of these books at the end of the 1st grade school year since the basal doesn't go through the end of school. If you have any activities, ideas, or worksheets that would help stretch this unit for a week and a half it would be a great help to a first year first grade teacher.

When I taught this unit I also covered the life cycle of a frog and friends. There are so many themes in Frog and Toad stories that if I were you I would choose a story to focus on and jump from there.

Our basal does have the story Frog and Toad. It has one chapter the one on gardening. the week we read this story --toad was yelling at the plant singing etc.. I bought some narcissus bulbs on an after Christmas sale and we planted them in pots marked toad and frog. we divided up the students to watch these bulbs grow!! They loved watching these grow even though the story was weeks ago. it has encouraged my students to take out Arnold Lobel books out of the library.

have fun!

has an entire lesson plan on one of the books... and you could adapt to any of them. Look under "other resources" -- they have plans for regular trade books at many levels.
