Clip to ScrapBook #1

Does any one have any ideas for writing center activities to do for personal or journal writing? I am having a tough time coming up with things and ideas for the students to do while I'm doing other things. Please let me know!!

I have a bunch of pictures cut from magazines and birthday cards Ive collected and laminated. They stay in a box in my classroom for my students to dip into when they need help finding an idea to write about. This is a great activity for all levels since it is so open ended. Ive gotten everything from personal narratives to poetry.

There are ready-made prompts for each day of the school year at busyteachercafe.com that you could use. I also found a box of prompts at our local teacher supply store. I found a book from scholastic called Story Starters. I use these with my students as 1 station out of 4. We also use writing station time to complete any stories that they haven't finished. Hope this helps!

what they want to write about (most of the time). I do provide ideas that they can use if they get stuck or just like one. I have fun presenting the 3 possible topics for the week.
