I am still in shock. And to think this woman has been in charge of other children. I am in disbelief. There is no hope for this world

Update: She only got 8 years!

Why is it manslaughter? It should be murder.

Teachers are no better or worse than anyone else in this world. Having responsibility for other children is entirely different from taking care of your own kids.

That said, this is truly a sad situation.

Well said & I totally agree.

It makes me angry when the media reference "a teacher's profession" in the headlines in conjunction with a crime story no matter the crime.

The story is very sad because of the nature of what happened ---& not bc the mother is a teacher. She could have had any other profession & it would still be awful.

She had postpartum psychosis- one of the kids was 4 months old. She was mentally ill and didn't know what she was doing. Terribly sad.

Is that true teeny tiny? That was my first thought: Post Partum Psychosis but it didn't mention that in the article.

If she has PPP/PPD then I really feel bad for her. That really messes you up. Poor babies. My heart breaks for them.

Yes, if you google for more articles you'll find that she had post partum psychosis and that is the reason for the shorter sentence and why it wasn't murder.

Here's some info from an article:

"Never in my mind would I hurt anyone, especially my children, who meant the world to me," the 32-year-old Bamenga said. "After this tragedy, I'll make it my mission to raise awareness about postpartum depression so that other families won't suffer through what I've suffered."

Bamenga was portrayed as a model mother and dedicated third-grade teacher at Public School 58 in Carroll Gardens, a leafy brownstone Brooklyn neighborhood. About a dozen supporters, some of whom were former parents of children she taught, attended the sentencing in Bronx State Supreme Court and helped raise about $20,000 for her defense."

I don't know why it is shocking that she is a teacher. Post partum depression and mental illness can affect anyone.

I don't know why this "teacher kills her own children" story from years ago was dug up and posted without the full story. Good bait but not complete.

This story is so sad. I know where this happened, it was not so far from where I live.
