where I'm from it's next to impossible. Plus, I'm not special ed certified which really sealed the deal for me not getting a teaching job. I would love to go back but I can't justify taking out more loans so I have a job now outside of education. But, I would love to land a teaching position.

Special Ed and/or ELL (English Language Learner) certifications are all but required in the state of PA. I do have a large number of credits in Reading but those kinds of jobs are few and far between. I am looking outside of education in the hope of finding a good paying stable job.

I think reading and special education certifications are a package deal in a way. I live in Ohio and lots of teaching positions require you to have a reading endorsement as part of the position. I am certified for special education, but I've not been able to find a job and I've been out of school for 5 years. I'm now looking outside of education for jobs because I can't keep waiting for a teaching job anymore.

If you have any extra courses or any additional experience at all in teaching reading, I encourage you to go ahead and apply for jobs that mention a reading endorsement.

Ive been subbing trying to get into schools and get me noticed.

I just had a job interview today for a 3rd grade position, but its in IN (Im in Louisville Ky so just across the river) and they asked me a bunch of questions about programs that they use, but Kentucky doesnt so I kept saying I wasnt familiar with this or that. They also interviewed someone before me whose already a teacher, and who they were laughing with and having a good time (didnt do this with me), so I dont think I got it

I finished my k12 sped endorsement in August. Last year was my first year teaching and it was as a school librarian. I live in illinois in a city with a teacher college and another one not far so it is a tough area. Last year I worked with many ESL students and I am thinking of taking courses in that for my endorsement. I was in a very difficult school last year and I am really enjoying subbing now while I look for somewhere that can be a new school home.

So sad to see all of the people not finding positions. I got a leave replacement this year and am so grateful to have landed a full-time reading teacher job. I'm in New York. Please don't give up! While you're waiting, try to get a job related to education. I promise it will help! Good luck everybody.

How does the cost of living relate to salaries in NC?

I've just been recommend for a teaching positions by 2 principles south of Raleigh (in HR's hands now). I've tried looking up base salaries, I guess I don't know where to look! I know they'll be lower than what they are here in NY, but NY lacks the availability of any jobs haha

Jobs in Nevada

are still available and we are paying signing bonuses.

Most jobs, about 800, are in Clark County (Las Vegas/Henderson); fewer, about 200, in Washoe (Reno/Sparks). The classrooms are being held down by long term subs right now who may end up teaching for the entire year if some fully certified teachers don't show up.

The legislature is waving the 50% of your evaluation being student test scores for this year at least and a good thing too since we continually rank last in Education Week's Chance for Success index. Still, you can get some experience here to use to apply elsewhere--that's one reason we have so many openings, folks took their experience to other states.

I'm in Australia and in my state there's currently 40,000 more teachers than jobs! So I've been subbing the last 3 years and a few weeks ago was finally offered my first permanent position at a beautiful school I've really enjoyed working at. They had me go through the interview process even though they had already picked me for the job. I felt terribly sorry for the other applicants, but it's the way it works. I've definitely been in their position before

I'm not sure how it is where you lot are but I'm guessing who you know makes a difference in any part of the world. I'd definitely recommend subbing and working your butt off to make an excellent impression.

I posted on September 29. My principal was interviewing last week to fill the same 5th grade spot I posted about a month ago. The job was offered to somebody, but she accepted a spot in a different building.

but with our major cutbacks in education, I doubt anyone would want to come here anyway. If you have a job in Kansas, you'd better keep it.
