Does Anyone Go Back to School Monday?

We don't go back until Tuesday, and I'm already dreading it. It's been a CRAZY year and I am not ready to face the madness again. DH and I attended two funerals this week, and I'm emotionally and mentally worn out. All I can think about is retirement. Although I have 30 years in, the insurance is what is keeping me working. In reality, I know I have to go at least 5 more years, but it's getting more and more difficult to face it each year. If I had to go back Monday, I would spend tomorrow in tears, sigh.

Students start back Tuesday. I'll only teach T-F this week, then I have doctor's apps 2 days the next week, and , benchmarks for which we have subs for 1 1/2 days, so I only teach a day and a half the second week. Then I have surgery the beginning of the next week and will be off for at least 3 weeks. I'm dreading keeping up with sub plans, but I won't be in the classroom much for the next 5 or 6 weeks.

I go back Tuesday (teachers and kids) but we didn't get out until 3pm on the 23rd . Today and tommorrow I am doing school work to be ready.

I hear you on the retirement and insurance dilemma. I could take my district's early retirement at 55 in 2 years (min. Age). I have 31 years in right now. However, it does not include insurance and pays a stipend that I would then need to use all of to buy insurance and/or find another job that includes insurance. I would need to at least do something part time just to have something to do. I am also probably looking at at least 5 more years too.

We are back on Tuesday. I'm dreading it too. I'm worn out too since I have spend my entire break at the hospital with my dad since he had surgery. I'm glad for the extra day but could use another week. I'm physically and mentally drained.

Me! Teachers and students start tomorrow after the shortest December vacation ever. We were in school on the 23rd. I feel like I'm the only one who has to work tomorrow. It IS a National holiday after all. Not fair!

And I really resent it. I feel like we got cheated in the winter break department this year as we worked a full day the Friday before Christmas weekend, and we didn't get the legal holiday for New Year's on Monday. Usually, we get our last day is the day before Christmas Eve and we get New Year's. I feel like we lost two days in there. Had a very stressful December waiting for an unannounced observation that finally came the week before Christmas. I felt like I needed to be "on" every day. So sorry for your losses. And I hear you about retirement. I have the years in to go and have qualified for free health insurance due to my service years, a perk that was legislated away some time ago for many other teachers. I am currently working on negotiating our contract, but when that gets settled, I am hoping to go out the year after. We get an added bonus for letting the district know early, and I would like to take full advantage of that. Originally, I thought I would work till 66, but I am hoping to go out by 64 now and hold out on the social security front. There is just too much stress and pressure and too little fun in education these days and it is becoming not worth it, especially since legislation in my state implemented premium sharing for health care and we actually make less every year due to that and increased pension contributions, if you could believe that. i would make more staying home because those large deductions would be gone.

I go back tomorrow, as well. NOT looking forward to it. This group is one of the worst I've had. I am so hoping to be able to transfer after this year, but I don't think the odds are very good since I need a specific kind of position to open up to make it possible, and I refuse to move to a school that's just like mine. Hoping I can make it the rest of the year without completely losing it!
