How does the application, interview, and teaching position process work when applying from out of state?

How many of you have gotten a job because you expanded your search?

I think expanding your search wouldn't hurt. Applications are usually online and the interview can be done on the phone or video chat. I'm not sure what you mean by the "teaching position process" part.

Come to NC! You will have your choice of jobs.

Pros

nicer weather
cheaper to live
jobs are plentiful

Cons
lower pay
no union

Many northern teachers come to get experience for a year or two and then go back. Some fall in love with our great state and never leave.

I am wondering if contracts can be signed via fax, for example, to ensure that I don't fly across the country and not get an offer.

I haven't got a job yet either. Teachers went back today here. My husband and I agreed that I should look out of state, but once the search began he changed his mind. Now he is back and forth so I don't know what to do. Best wishes for getting the right job for you. Coincidentally North Carolina is where we talked about going.

Let me know if you end up looking for positions in NC, especially if you get an offer

Teachnkids, did you start applying to jobs before you got your new NC cert in your hand?

Yes, I did start applying before license was in hand. Districts know what states they have reciprocity with and will be able to advise you.

Thank you for your response, Teachnkids! I'm waiting to get forms signed for the pre-fee step, and I'm already looking at a few positions.

GraceKrispy, I *think* I have one. All I have to do is "go before the board," but I actually start teaching before that date. Anyone knows what "going before the board" entails?

YOU don't physically go before the board, your paperwork does. I even asked if I should attend and was told not to go. You might want to doublecheck if you are to attend.

I have always heard it was VERY rare that a teacher was selected and the Board rejects it. I hope it is that way for you as well.

Good luck.

Thank you for your response. I will have to check. I ended up getting a position in New England. Though not in my home state, I could definitely drive home to family and friends in less than a day!
