Writing Project Idea

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'm trying to come up with a new writing project for my class of 4th graders. My school is behind the times and the we have about 60 minutes a day for literacy, to include reading, spelling, grammar, writing, etc., so not a lot of time! I'm in charge of the school bulletin board for the first two week so Feb., so I was wondering if there was a short, fun writing project appropriate for 4th grade that we could do and hang up. I'd start this week and would want it ready to hang up by the that beginning of Feb. Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks!

They have some groundhogs day writing prompts on tpt. They’re not free.

Maybe something themed for Valentine Day. Things they love about school? Letters to the school? Acrostic poems around "love" themed words using new adjectives?

You could also do something for President's day. What would they change in the world if they were president? I have seen writing paper with a copy of paper money at the top and the students' picture glued over the actual person on the bill. That would be cute.

called "Bugs that Bug Me" Each student would select the insect they hated the most. They had to try to persuade others that their insect was the worst. Each essay had to have three or more reasons and a personal experience with the insect included.

It usually went very well and was fairly quick. For a bulletin board I would help them find a picture of the bug to put on the board next to their essays.

Why not use several of the suggestions?

Put several of each on strips of paper and let the students draw one. You would have variety that way so it would cover several of the important things in February.
