Do your students have access to microwaves in the cafeteria during lunch? Our middle school and upper elementary have microwaves for students. Some years we have 4 and now we only have 2. The lines are long. The students get mad when someone in front has a 6 minute freezer meal.

The worst is when they forget to add water to the EasyMac bowls or when they burn popcorn.

Nope. No kids have access to fridges or microwaves at lunch. They also canít have food brought to them at lunchtime.

No. Who has time for that? One year I was sent a note to heat up a studentís lunch. Sorry, I cant. I barely have time to heat mine when I need to.

I have a fridge and microwave in my room that I bought. I don't let them use mine although they ask. I don't even use mine because they complain about food odors. I should not have bought it for myself. I just eat yogurt every day.

We had them in our elementary cafeteria until this year. We had a 1 min rule on anything that needed to be heated. It was determined that they were a safety hazard for the little ones due to hot liquids, steam, etc. and they kept breaking, so they were removed. Parents were up in arms at first because their precious babies need hot food, but they have all adjusted and no one has died from eating a sandwich, so all is well.

Ours do but there is a 1 minute rule and we have at least one microwave per 40 students and most students don't bring microwavable food. My students have 3 available to them during their lunch and there are only 25 eating lunch at the same time as they are.

Our microwaves often don't last long. I don't think anyone has taught the children how to properly use a microwave

No, our students do not have access to microwaves in the cafeteria. The only exception for heating up a lunch would be for students with a dietary need that requires it. These students heat up their lunch in the microwave in the office.

Once at the beginning of the school year, I had a student who brought a heat and serve meal for lunch. I explained that I would heat it up for him only once in the teachers' lounge, because it was my lunchtime too and I needed to eat. The student brought in the same type of lunch the next week and expected me to heat it up again. I told him that he needed to figure out what to do because I wasn't heating it and there's a reason it's called "cold lunch." Kind of snarky of me, but it never happened again.
