Missouri predicts need for qualified subs

I saw on my local news that due to extended quarantine absences, highly qualified substitutes will be greatly needed. Therefore, Missouri is waving 550 hour limit for retired teachers so that they can sub beyond these hours without fear of losing any of their retirement benefits. I also saw that Missouri.s department of education is looking to implement a twenty hour online course On professionalism And classroom management for those seeking sub certificates . This is due to fact that More absences will likely be multiple days because of quarantine times.

Interesting. I googled around for the article (https://www.ky3.com/2020/08/08/misso...tute-teachers/) and what's strangely absent from that list of incentives is a salary increase.

Well, good luck to them.

Ours lowered their requirements too. They are now allowing people to sub with 60 college credits and they can get an emergency sub license. They didn't allow emergency licenses or non-teacher experience before.

I wish they would increase the number of subs by treating us better, rather than lowering requirements.

yeah, they finally posted an updated pay schedule in our district. same pay for day-to-day jobs as last year. i'm not positive because i avoid long-term jobs, but it looked like they LOWERED the pay for those by a sizable amount, something like $20 less.
