NewsELA.com has a free trial-I wait until the middle of the year when I can get the most out of it when my third graders are doing a bit better in comprehension (beginning of the year it always terrible and it takes too much scaffolding and hand holding for them to have minimal comprehension to even do a passage thats a year below their reading level) and then I do my 1 month free trial when my kids are already used to using passage and question sets online and how to use online tools. Then I use it for another month or two but tell the kids to let me see their score when they are done (if you dont have a paid account you cant view student data after your free trial but you can still assign passages)

Or, like readworks you can print out the passages and questions.

I like commonlit.org . Itís completely free and has text choices for grades 3+.

I love Read works but found out last year that the answers are all posted online. My poor kids didn't even bother to reword the short answers.
