School-wide theme vs. classroom theme

Is anyone else struggling with this? I have a really cute Hollywood/movie theme ready to go for my classroom, then the principal decides that we are doing a school-wide theme...life is a highway of learning. My theme doesn't fit with that at all!

Any suggestions on how I can still do my theme without upsetting my principal? Is there a way to combine the two that I'm not seeing? I just can't stand the idea of having the same decorations as the other 30+ teachers in my school (gr. 4-5).

Hollywood: On the road to learning success.

I am not sure where you are located, but use a map to chart Reading growth, Start with your city and add stars as they make progress. When they meet a predetermined goal they get a personalized star on the Holllywood Walk of Fame (see other posts about sign generator to create this)

Just a start.

How About

getting info on Hollywood actors etc, and what it took to get where they are today and include their education.

Someone posted yesterday or the day before famous people with history degrees.

Use Bill Cosby life for example from the early days to his continued education with a doctorate in education

that's all I can think about now.....

The first thing that comes to my mind is that the song "Life is a Highway" is included in the Cars movie. Why couldn't you decorate your room with a few movies as the focus? One of the movies could be Cars so you can use the caption "Life is a Highway." There are many sites on-line that have printable coloring pages of the Cars characters. Just make this in a more prominent area in your classroom so the principal can see it!

I just posted recently on another board about using The Wizard of Oz and the caption "Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Success!" You could use this to display your students' work, and this would help tie your theme together.

Hope this is helpful!

Could you do a door or hallway bulletin board that ties the two together?
Maybe the cars movie like a PP said or even a drive-in movie theater. You could make a big screen with the "life is a highway of learning" across it as the movie title and cars around it with students' names or to display their work.
I would keep you classroom theme as is - we often have a school wide theme, but we don't carry it into the classroom.
