Flip Flops/Beach Theme

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'm planning to do a Flip Flop bulletin board for the outside of my classroom. I am planning a blue background (or cloud butcher paper that I found at my local craft store), yellow paper for my sand, a cute tiki hut kind of border, and my students' names will be on flip flops. And maybe an umbrella (not sure about this yet). All I need is a catchy title for my board. Any suggestions?

I did flipflops on my door one year. It said "Don't Flip...Flop into 2-3" 2-3 is just our room number. Here's a picture of it.

Flip Flopping into Fifth Grade
Old 07-09-2009, 09:55 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #8

I had the kids make their own flip flops using a card stock bottom and pipe cleaners. They then decorated their flip flops and wrote on one- something they were excited for in fifth grade and on the other- something they were nervous about. Kind of like they are flip flopping back and forth between nervousness and excitement.

I also used "You'll flip over who's flopping into third grade!" Before school started, I got the pedicure flip flops from my manicurist. I put my students' names on the flip flops using Puff paint. For Open House night, which is the Friday before school starts, I put their flip flop and a slip of paper with the directions in a gallon ziploc bag. The directions were to add at least 3 things that describe them. They could draw, print and paste, put stickers, etc. Whatever they could do to be creative with it.

I hope this helps!!

I just found some great foamie flip flops that your can include your students picture in the middle at Hobby Lobby. The pkg. contains 30 flip flops for $8.00 but were on sale for 50% off. You could incorporate surf boards attached to each other with letters -WELCOME. Hope that helps

Question about the flip flops

Did you ask them to donate them to you?? Or was there a charge for them?
I've seem them at the Dollar store but I'd rather get them for free than spending $25 or so for a whole classroom set.

Please let me know.

Thanks

How did you get the flip flops to stay? I tried it today with velcro and it would not stay on the the backs of the flip flops. I thought about using a hot glue gun.

I saw a really cute flip-flop board in our preschool today. She had traced each child's foot (with a shoe on, so the toe part was rounded) onto a piece of scrapbooking paper. Then, she used pipecleaners poked through the paper to make the strap part. They were really cute!
