Comprehension Assessment

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hi everyone! I am a Reading Specialist in an elementary school. We are looking for a school wide assessment to use for comprehension. We currently use DIBELS, but feel the retell portion is quite subjective and not a good measure of comprehension. Does anyone have an assessment suggestion?

We use the AIMSWeb MAZE for our Resource Room Students. DAZE is used schoolwide. There is also a site called EasyCBM which is through teh University of Oregon. There are passages starting at 2nd grade that the students can read online or print. Then the quizes are taken on the computer and results are graphed. It's free at the classroom level but they are now charging for a school license.

The address is:

Suggestion for Comprehension

ReadWorks.org has several comprehension passages available online. There are passages with question sets for multiple grades and reading topics. There are lesson plans, strategy units, and non-fiction passages available on their site. The materials are research-based and are labeled by both grade and Lexile level. It may not be the solution to your school-wide assessment, but it is worth taking a look.
