Clip to ScrapBook #1

I remember seeing an art project that used an accordian type folded paper mounted on black. When you looked at one side of the accordian fold, the picture, say a chameleon, looked one color; and when you looked at the other side of the accordian fold, it looked a different color. I wanted to do this for the book "The Mixed Up Chameleon."

Does anyone have the instructions??????

Also looking for simple projects for the books:
  • Pigsty
  • House for Hermit Crab

curriculum expert (you know rotation enrichment teacher, so grade level can plan together). What grade are you teaching? I did it with 3rd-6th. I don't remember if I tried it with 1-2. When you say "mount them" you don't mean flat right? Since they have to stay flexible to see the different sides (the accordian part) black is great color so lines don't show- I suggest pencil lines and ruler to mark off cut lines and also numbering so kids don't go crazy when gluing pix down.

*black background construction paper (say 9X12)
*2 pix of Camelon art drawn on 9X6 (half size of whatever sz blk is)
*After 2 pix colored, lightly draw pencil lines at 1" intervals (or half inch if pref)
*Pix #1 lightly number each strip with odd numbers (1-11)
*Pix #2 " " " " " even numbers (2-12)
*Cut strips on a paper cutter so they are straight
*Let kids glue them on in number order (erase numbers after)
*Then fold accordian style

IT LOOKS AWESOME!

TIPS: -the Pix should be on lighter paper for clearer art
-the 2 separate drawings will have more impact if colors have more contrast
-Do a sample first to work out the bugs and also to show them the flat product
so they understand the alternating concept
-If you want numbers written on back side make sure they are in reverse order
this is where you start going crazy! So check their numbers before cutting
