Chromebooks in 1st Grade?

Hello,
I'm looking for a little advice... What is the youngest age at which kids can be expected to use Chromebooks? Next week I will be entering a 1st grade class for the first time. The school has Chromebooks and I have a lot of fun tasks that I'd like to try out on the learners. Most of it is pointing and clicking with very little keyboard work, but is it asking for trouble to try this with such young learners?

If they use wireless mice it will be a different experience than using the trackpad. Click-and-drag on the trackpad can be tricky with little ones.

I'd like to introduce you to Christine Pinto. She is amazing. She uses Chromebooks with pre-K and K. Here are some links:

Warning: This will be like falling down a rabbit hole.

Thank you for that advice! How difficult do you think it would be to have them login to a site. I'm trying to set up something with a QR code, but it might not be ready on time.

Our K students use Chrome books daily for Lexia. They also have to take the NWEA test in January and May on them.

We have QR code log ins through Clever so they don't have to use or type in usernames and passwords.

I would give them a task and let them explore them for a while. Watch to see who can do it and who may need a little more help .

I taught second. We had access to them but I rarely used them. Why? Be cause scientific research is proving that too much screen time on still developing brains stunts the frontal lobes. This is the part of the brain responsible for social interaction and executive process.

Iím not good at copying links...just Google brain research on too much screen time. Psychology Today has several good articles.

Our first grade team uses them daily. It takes a lot of training to teach them to log in and a few still can't without my help. They are touch screens so that helps. I'm going to check out the links from KeyKid for sure

My kinders use them daily. I am ready to throw them out the window. But we use them. Logging on is the worst and my district does not make it easy. I also have to log them on to every site one by one because they won't save passwords.

Can you adjust this in the settings once you are into their accounts?
