What brings you joy?

I came to the realization today that I don't have enough joy in my life. I so badly need a vacation, but between the virus and my DH taking time off for my knee surgery and a surgery he had, he doesn't have many days left. Besides, we are back in school anyway. School is definitely not bringing me joy. I also realized today I'm using food to bring me joy and that has to stop! Politics and social media have become poison and a source of frustration for me.

So that brings me to this: I'm on a mission to find joy. I'm asking my PT friends -- what brings you joy? And if you don't know, maybe I'm not the only one who needs to be on this mission.

Things that bring me joy:
- painting (fluid acrylics)
- playing with my 2 dogs
- hot showers
- reading
- fresh sheets on the bed
- painting my fingernails/toenails (I never take the time)

-praising God and His glory
-waking up on my own without an alarm- even if I don't sleep in
-playing with and/or snuggling with my dog or cats
-fresh sheets on the bed-reading
-laughing over something genuinely funny-even more so if I'm laughing with someone
-I know it's food related, but a "food experience"- finding a "never made it before" recipe, shopping for ingredients, making it, and sharing it
-fixing something around the house or creating something- I feel accomplished bc I met a challenge and did it- a very "I am Woman"badass feeling

Reading a good book while sitting on my porch

Talking to my adult kids

My kitty in my lap

Nice weather

A nice walk with one of my 2 walking partners

The beach in summer by my folks' house in Maine.

Things are very simplified now....

Great thread!

I like to look at water. The ocean or a waterfall would be my favorite, but a pond, a river,a stream, it all works.

In fact, it's on our agenda for a walk this weekend. I always tell my husband "I have to go see water."

Like Mkat, water brings me joy.
Also,
  • walks in state or county parks, especially now that the trees are turning
  • making things with my Cricut
  • reading a really good book

What brings me joy

Taking a trip to anywhere. I'm seriously going to Kansas this weekend- driving all day Saturday, staying Sunday visiting two museums, and driving back all day Monday. Seems crazy, but I need to get out of here.

My cats in my lap. One doesn't like to cuddle anymore, so when he curls up near me or on me my heart melts.

Watching The Great British Baking Show. I seriously look forward to it all week.

WW fudge bars- I love them and I can hardly ever find them. When I do it's such a treat. I savor them one a night.

McDonald's Diet Coke- Again it's a treat to have that awesome carbonation. I just smile when I get one and I take the first sip.

A little joy and a little sadness looking at the scrapbook I made of my DH. I just remember all the great times we had together. We lived a charmed life. It came crashing down when he died, but when I look back it brings me a bit of joy. A few years ago I would have been bitter, so I've come a long way.

Listening to Harry Potter. Complete Potterhead here and the books just bring me joy.

When the Packers win. DH and I used to root for them and now I am a die hard fan. I smile huge when we win!

Grocery shopping at Wegman’s is pure joy. It’s my happy place, so much so that we are driving over 550 miles to go to the closest store.

We are in the RV and it will take 2 days of driving. We are just about halfway right now.

I love this question! The first memorable moment of joy that came to me after reading your post was the moment I had with my adult children and three year old grandchild. We had taken a hike in a pretty sun blessed forest and came upon a log to sit . Granddaughter decided to sing at the top of her lungs and sway to her music. We were all entranced by her and after she sang,we all had to follow her orders to sing too . Family moments bring me tremendous joy.

I'm also in desperate need of some relief.

I would say what brings me joy is laughing with my kids, or listening to my kids laugh and talk with one another.

Also, sleep.

* a long drive exploring a new place or an old haunt. There's just so much to see, places nearby that I haven't been to.

*photography. I like trying to get better. I belong to a group that posts photographs of nature here in Maine and I get so inspired that I want to get out and try it myself.

* my bedroom has become my sanctuary in this crazy house. My sister really does drive my batty and I love being able to escape to my room. My furniture, my decorations, my mother's old desk, a few treasured paintings, my computer, my very comfortable bed, the view out my window of the garden and the trees and the bird feeder. I wish I had a view of the lake from my bedroom. My sister has lived in the family home for a very long time and doesn't like anything of "hers" touched or moved, to the point where she had a screaming fit when we dared to replace the kitchen wastebasket. She's that nuts.

* And I love my giant "jigsaw puzzle" that I'm doing with family history. I have to hunt down the pieces and they are scattered all over the Internet. Pure joy when I find an old newspaper article like I did yesterday that was just a blurb mentioning that one of my ancestors was getting his house wired for electricity.

* My son. He is so helpful, so thoughtful, so kind, and yet so human.

* Videos of my neice's children. They are four and just under a year old. The boy is delightful and mischievious and so intelligent and curious and open with his affection or disdain. And the little girl is just beginning to show a beautiful happy personality. She laughs and smiles constantly, is a messy eater, makes weird sqawking noises, is learning to crawl everywhere...Such complete joy.

seeing the beautiful fall colors
taking a bike ride
cuddling up with my little dog
listening to the rain fall while in our motorhome in bed
playing catch with my dog- she is just do cute running back to me with a ball she can barely carry
watching a beautiful sunset
taking early morning walks
listening to my 5 month old grandson laugh
reading books to my grandson
taking drives in my car with the sunroof open
finishing a crocheting project
watching my husband enjoy a meal I cooked

I record three “moments of joy” from the day. Today’s are all from my walk: the sound of fall leaves crunching underfoot, the brilliant gold of the birch leaves on the trees, the warmth of the sun on my bare arms and face.

My family, especially my grandniece & nephews.
My doggie nephew.
Talking with my friends and family.
Following the animals I love on FB.
Finally tossing out things that were just causing clutter.
Praying and having my prayers answered.
I received my voting ballot, completed it and mailed.

In all seriousness, the only thing that brought me joy in the past 6 months was the lemon/citrus theme bulletin board decorations from Really Good Stuff catalogue. I bought it all and it makes me happy every time I see it. A friend linked me to a seller on TPT that has positive posters with the lemon theme so I got those. My daughter got me a lemon print dress and a t-shirt and a mom brought in a lemon decorated water bottle.

Watching baseball and movies, listening to jazz music and a couple of other types of music, spending time with my husband and cats, playing my instruments which unfortunately is something I have not been doing as I am trying to tame my arthritis, acting, also something I have not been doing right now.

Spending time with my 2 year old grandson is my number 1 source of joy. I try to really treasure every moment because you just never know what tomorrow will bring.

I love snuggling with my dog and reading.

I love to sew, and it brings me joy to see what I can make.

And even though DH drives me crazy sometimes, I'm glad we are still hanging in there after all these years!

*sewing and creating new things with my embroidery machine
*giving things to people, whether it is something I made or bought
*sitting in the sun on a nice day and watching birds, butterflies, or just the landscape
* stargazing or checking out any things that are happening in the night skies
*the sound of frogs at night and birds in the early morning hours

Watching Call the Midwife on Netflix with my mom, who's 92, very forgetful, and living with us right now
Zoom calls with my serious brother and very silly nephew
My monthly trip to our bay house. My sister takes care of Mom then
My very uncluttered kitchen counter. I'm really trying!
My yard, which I prefer to call a garden. Pink Knockout roses, white icebergs, lots of lawn. Front is becoming cactus infested! On purpose.
Not hearing my neighbor's dog bark. We won that Seven Years War!

Cleaning out closets gives me joy! Ha ha
Looking at real estate. We would like to sell our big house and buy a condo soon.

Such a good thread.
I, too needed inspiration.
My son being sober
Reading
Proteacher and Christ Followers board
Many things that others have mentioned, but currently missing from my life.
I need to plan joyful moments, especially now.

* my commitment to my husband and our family and his commitment to us

* a hot shower with soft, bubbly, great smelling soap after a good day of yard and garden work

* a long bike ride, hike, or both along the river trails

* a beautiful sunrise on my way to school

* the first spring thunderstorm and the first winter snowfall

* a clean decluttered kitchen

* the soft, fuzzy comfort that comes with a brand new sweatshirt

* summer campfires under the moon and stars

* kayaking on a beautiful lake or river

* listening to wind blowing through the trees, especially at night when going to sleep

A lot of what brings me JOY also brings me PEACE.

So many things! I have a close relationship with God and He lets me feel so much joy. Nature, the sun, anything sparkly, rainbows, babies, my friends, my dogs, a good nights sleep, the sunrise, the sunset, swimming, good books, being outside, and lots more

It is pure joy when all my kids, their spouses, and my grandkids are under my roof at the same time.

The beauty of nature

Ocean breezes

Catching up with old friends

Clear PET scans
