Any good news?

I noticed on Whisper It Wednesday and Three Word Thursday how many of us are feeling exhausted and angry. And with good reason. It helps me to know others are worn out and fed up, too. Misery loves company?

However, there are some very good things in my life, too:
*an adult former student came to visit (masked and distanced, no hugs, but itís lovely to feel valued)
*my DD now checks on me daily
*today, just today because itís a lifelong battle, I can honestly say MY WEIGHT IS GOOD
*this was yesterdayís sunset from my balcony (see the birds?)

What are some good things in your life?

We had a Covid scare this week, but got the news yesterday that Dhís test was negative! He was only sick for two days, and doctor wanted to be safe. He is feeling fine now and we donít have to worry.

Other good things:
-online school is going so well for my kids, we may just stick to it all year
-we were invited by friends to use their cabin up in the mountains next week (they wonít be there, itíll have been cleaned) so we will have a free getaway!
-my boss asked if I would be willing to take on another project (I write lesson plans online) so Iíll be earning more $$ this month!

DD,GD and son have been visiting and I've had lots of time to read with GD.

Son is finishing an upstairs bathroom remodel and replacing tile in downstairs bathroom and laundry room.

I have slowly figured out my new sewing machine and will be making my first project soon.

I'm a four year cancer survivor. I had a clean mammogram and a good appointment with my oncologist. I'm grateful and relieved to be healthy.

A woman from church announced yesterday on Facebook that she is now cancer free! In early spring she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer (non smoker) and a tumor was removed later in spring. Now she is cancer free!

My friend's sister, who I was in brief contact with, had a negative result on her Covid test. She had some sores in her mouth that the dentist noticed and wanted her to get checked.

I was included in a small, socially distanced deck lunch with some former staff members from my school. I tend to be excluded from gatherings like this and find out about them after the fact from social media. It was great to see everyone and catch up.

I had a chance to drive to a neighboring state to see the beautiful foliage. It seemed to be the peak, and the colors were very pretty.

-Iím staying away from school stuff completely my entire 2 weeks. One of APís sent me a lovely email consisting of nothing but get well wishes.

-Iím healing up and feeling pretty good. Although I donít know why I thought Iíd bounce out of the ER and be fine 4 days later.

Our Principal called us all out onto the football field yesterday. We had a big dance party. I'm not normally one who would ever dance (in public), but it felt good to let loose a little bit and see people smile.

I was at a local restaurant yesterday and two kids I teach came up to me to introduce themselves (I'm an all virtual teacher). It was sooo great to see those kids and have them actually recognize me and come say hi!

Thanks for starting this, amiga13. It's calming to think about the positive things in our lives.

Man's second cataract surgery went extremely well. Within a minute of driving away from the hospital, he exclaimed happily, "I can see so much!" and yesterday, he exclaimed over being able to see the colours of the birds on our birdfeeder.

On our birdfeeder, we've seen house finches, a nuthatch, black capped chickadees, chestnut backed chickadees, song sparrows, house sparrows, flickers, and a squirrel who lives in hope that the birdfeeder will magically become un-squirrel proofed.

Our garden has produced some wonderful harvest for us and we still have cucumbers (!), sugar pie pumpkins, kale, carrots, beets, chard.

I talked Man into getting a countertop oven which is wonderful! It's a convection/air fryer/dehydrator/rotisserie oven that fits exactly between the stove and refrigerator without taking over the kitchen (which was his fear and his reluctance at getting an oven). The real oven is still awaiting a part.

Went to a thrift store and found

12 yards of fabric (six different pieces) new and great for quilting, all for $30!

Took a little box of random stuff from my grandmother's jewelry box, stray earrings, chains, rings, charms, pins, nothing amazing, to a gold buying place. The guy gave me back almost all of it, plus $250!! Just a few little scraps!

Took a road trip to the vineyards of Naples, NY, and picked up 21 grape pies and 47 gallons of Concord hot-pressed grape juice. Gave away about 20 gallons, then pasteurized the rest, canned some, froze some. Fresh grape juice for winter!

Fall weather has been stellar for the past two or three weeks. It was 70 yesterday here in Northern NY!

My son started his new job in January. He is now a team leader with two people reporting to him. So proud!

Brother and I finally had a phone conversation about the care of our mom that didn't end with me in tears.

DH and our son got me my very favorite cake for my birthday yesterday.

DS's teacher all had wonderful things to say about him and his progress at P/T conferences last week.

Tomorrow, we are going on a cemetery walk to learn about the historically influential people in our town. We usually do the historical homes tour in December, but that's cancelled...This should be fun. The "actors" will be in costume and telling about their "people."

Have a safe and happy day, everyone...

I got to see my granddaughters in person this weekend and kept them for two nights. I had only seen them in person once since the start of the pandemic.

We had parent/teacher conferences via zoom yesterday. Several of the parents told me they were very happy with my virtual first grade class. They feel like Iíve worked hard to make it as close to regular school as possible, and their kids love it. I didnít get one negative comment. Makes me feel very good.

I found a neoprene shirt that will keep me warmer when I swim. I have loved getting out for about 2 hours each day to swim in my friendís unheated pool. Even with daytime highs in the 90ís the pool doesnít reach 70 midday. Hopefully, the shirt will give me another month or more of swimming. We will have the talk then about turning the heater on for winter.

I have been spending a bit of time each day purging and organizing. I jump all over the place and Iím finally starting to see some areas finalized. The isolation has helped me to see how many things that I can get rid of.

DH and I are healthy.

At this moment, we are all healthy and our monthly income exceeds our monthly expenditures

And my credit score took a huge jump and I'm in the mid-800s (we hope to buy a house at some point soon, so that's great news)

My youngest son got married to a nice girl last Saturday. The weather was perfect and now they are on their honeymoon. He's my baby and the last to get married. There were tears as I walked with him down the aisle.

Harvest is in full swing and the corn and soybean yields are pretty good considering we are in the middle of a drought and the summer derecho! One of my boys is home to help, the other is on his honeymoon! All of my kids love harvest, but all have different careers than farming!

DS discovered someone got into his bank account. Finally, the bank gave him credit and issued a new debit card. (He borrowed $ from me and paid me back today.)

Weather is a bit cooler and we are enjoying our walks.

Iím STILL waiting for my lanai furniture that I ordered on Aug 5. I called to day and they said it was STILL on backorder. I told them I would be in tomorrow to cancel the order and wanted my deposit refunded.

An hour later they called and said the warehouse is expecting a shipment on Monday and it will be delivered on Tuesday!

I would have been fine with cancelling. I could have gone to Loweís and paid half the price BUT I am excited to have something high quality and super comfortable.

health issues

My health is improving. Lung function is getting better and I am able to walk further distances. (I've been working on building up stamina.) I think being up here in Maine and away from the humid climate of Georgia and all the pollen that was making my asthma problems worse is helping quite a bit. And the added stamina exercises that I've been doing seems to be working. I do miss the piney woods and the deep blue skies, the blooming dogwoods and numerous daylilies and daffodils, but there is plenty of beauty up here, plus it's much cooler, which I enjoy.

Now come winter I might not appreciate the weather as much, but it's temporary. I just need to find a way to continue working on stamina during those months.

  • Iíve lost 30 pounds.
  • DH has lost 60 pounds.
  • My mom is still doing okay, all things considered.
  • My cousin who was just diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer got the results of her PET scan, and the cancer is only in one breast and the closest lymph nodes.
  • The weather is really nice.
  • When we go back in person, Iím going to get to stay home and teach all of the remote kids while my partner teaches all of the in-person kids.

I'm drinking the last bottle of my favorite rhubarb wine. It's made at a local vineyard and so nicely tart.

This fall has been gorgeous and I've been taking advantage by taking walks with friends and sitting around fire pits reminiscing. This is the loveliest fall I remember.

DH is cooking supper... sous vide pork loin and roasted butternut squash.

I'm looking forward to seeing my sons next weekend and watching our favorite college play football ... all socially distanced outside. It will be such a special day.

I had a porch visit with a former coworker that was delightful.

Christmas presents are being delivered right and left. It's fun to think of finding gifts my family will appreciate. Maybe we won't be together but I can relish planning to please them.

There are so many good things happening.

I pulled my hamstring in my good leg in September and it's finally healing, so walking is getting easier again.

Our weather has been really beautiful.

So thankful that I was able to retire this year - my friends still working are really struggling.

My dh has the best sense of humor and I still really enjoy it even after being together for 43 years.

We are celebrating DH's birthday with a two-night airbnb getaway about 1 1/2 hours away from our house. Nice scenery, on the Columbia River Gorge. So nice to get away from our house! Arrived tonight, going to hike tomorrow.

This condo is very nice. No dog to deal with, no real life. We haven't been anywhere since we went to Vegas for 2 nights in December. So happy!
