Hi all,

I will be beginning my NQT year in September! I specialised in KS2 (7-11) but my job is actually in KS1 (3-7) with a Year 2 class (6-7 year olds).

Any advice or tips on classroom management, displays, rewards systems, resources, equipment to buy etc would be greatly appreciated.

So excited for September!

Hi everyone,
I'm returning to teaching after 16 years (gulp) of being a SAHM. I honestly can't believe it has been that long, but there you have it! I've spent the last year working part time as a sub, and then signed on as an aide at a small Catholic school. I was thrilled when they offered me a full time role this September. (I was expecting 2-3 years of subbing in order to get my feet wet again.) I am ecstatic to be teaching grade 2. Coincidentally, I was a second grade teacher before I started my family as well.

I have noticed so many changes in education (in a good way) that it has made me start to compare my old classroom with my new...the 20th century vs 21st century, thus my screen name.

I am so happy to have found this group. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better.

I accepted a position as the librarian of our Elementary School. I've been teaching for 16 years (kindergarten, 1st, and Pre-K). I don't have my librarian certification but we have a librarian shortage, so I'm a bit nervous...any suggestions are appreciated!

I am a first year teacher that just accepted a position in first grade in Gilbert AZ!

I moved my family across the country for this opportunity and even though I have 2 adult children, 2 teens, and 2 grandchildren (I am in my forties), I am terribly nervous!
I have both my undergraduate and graduate degree in Elementary Education

First year fulltime teaching

hi all

While I am not new to teaching, this, year will be my first year teaching high school English fulltime. (9/10 grade) In years past I taught kindergarten and an adults with disabilities class.

I am super excited, anxious, and a little bit overwhelmed. This has been a really journey and for a while I worried it wasn't going to happen.

This year promises to bring a lot of ups and downs.

Have a great year folks

Hello All,

Im new to teaching. I started working at a daycare as a toddler teacher. I am going to school for my BA in ECE. I work with both young and older toddlers. I have been looking for a place like this to connect with other teachers. I see that most teachers are pre-K and up but I am hoping to make new friends and get advice.

First years are usually kind of hard, learning curriculum, learning school procedures, and getting your management system working smoothly, but teaching is a lot of fun, too! Be flexible, give yourself a break, take care of yourselves, and enjoy your 'kids'!

I've been teaching in private schools for, 10 years. However in California, that doesn't count unless you use their credential while you do it. I'll be teaching the Kinders at a public school wirh my new ctenditial! I'm really excited to be joining what seems to be a great team. Did I say I was excited! I can't wait, after subbing around the district I have found a home. Yea me!

This year I am going to be teaching 5th grade in a departmentalized setting. Most likely I will be doing the science. It's my first year as a contracted teacher in the U.S. Previously I taught English in South Korean public schools for 5 years, and then I subbed for one year in the district that hired me. Anxious to get started.

Student Teaching Intern!

Clip to ScrapBook #39

I'm in my internship with 6th grade gifted LA classes now (about 130 student, eeeeek!) and I'm loving it, but was curious if anyone had any thoughts or help for me during this internship to help me in the future.

I have a wonderful teacher, but she has to abide by the curriculum and is making it so I really won't have much creative liberty over the classroom. Any advice or anyone who can give me help on what to do during this internship to secure myself a job come January?

Thanks so much I haven't really gotten a chance to be teaching in front of the class during my practicums, so this is super new to me.

After a month and a half of emergency long-term subbing in Third (re: unprecedented crazy) in May-June, and an entire summer waiting and hoping with colleagues and parents, I was asked to stay on as the Third Grade teacher in a parochial school! I am very excited, but I have almost no idea where to start right now ...

Technically, I'm a 2nd year teacher, but I'm in a new district, school (obviously ), and grade level. I went from 2nd to K. I'm so excited to start, but nervous. They've been in school almost 3 weeks now, and are splitting classes. I'll have 2 days to pull my classroom together and plan before I have kids!

I'm not new to teaching or PT, but I am teaching AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, and Musical Theater. None of which I have ever taught before.

Excited to be teaching in a subject area I love. I worked in mass communications across several media for 20 years. I'm looking forward to turning my passion for English/Language Arts into a rewarding learning and teaching experience for my 7th grade students and me, respectively!

I am also not a new teacher and teaching Grade 1 in NH. Tessa1, I was wondering if you might be interested in having our classes be pen pals this year? Let me know what you think.

New to Split Intermediate Grades

I'm not a new teacher, however this is my first year actually starting the beginning of the year off with my own class. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I was hired on the 4th of September and began work on the 8th, with no real time to setup my classroom. I have never taught split grades before so this really have thinking. I've always did middle school departmental ELA. Now, I have to teach all subjects. This is going to be interesting but I think I can handle the change. Have a fabulous school year.

Hi Vixicle!

I want to write a book to help you (new teachers) out.

All I want from you is your feedback on the help that I offer.

The gist of it? I love reading about research in psychology and then applying it in my classroom.

So far I have already used many methods that have made a huge difference in my classroom.

However, I am interested to learn if they are successful with your students as well.

Write back to me if you are interested.

I am so excited to hear from you!

I'm a little late to the discussion, but I am a first year teacher in a 4th/5th grade resource room.

I am a resource teacher servicing kids in grades 1-8, though most of my students are in 4th-8th. I provide pull out services for 38 students and also act as their case manager.

I see I'm late here... I'm technically a 2nd year teacher but teaching in different school, different grade. Transition so far has been anything but smooth. :/ Did tenth grade ELA last year, doing 4th grade all subjects now. Seeking any and all advice!!

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I still made it, right?

I'm a first year teacher working in a small, private Christian school in Missouri. I teach kindergarten.

Thanks for such a nice thread.

I am qualified for a few subjects but I currently teach SPED at a suburban High School in Tennessee.

I got the job in October but did not start until the middle of November.

I am so excited to be making a difference.

I just accepted a job for the 2016-2017 school year in the district I am currently student teaching in! So excited, I can't wait to find out what grade! I'm in a second grade classroom now. I'm excited to get to have a career that I'm passionate about and where I can make a difference. I hope to get to connect with other teachers and classrooms around the world!
