hurray! masks mandated!

our mayor just called for masks to be mandated in our city (Boise, Idaho) in public (indoor and outdoor) places, starting July 4! i cannot even believe it! i'm sure there will be huge push-back. 3 other cities (2 of them tourist locations and the other a college town) have also made the requirement. i wish it happened at the state level, too.

(side note: our school district was calling for masks to be recommended--they are now calling it a requirement!).....if we even go back. our state is the winner---we have the highest rate of growth in positive cases! https://www.npr.org/sections/health-...rus-in-the-u-s k of course, we had a low rate to begin with, so there's that...

I wish our state would mandate it. After seeing on the news how the two layered homemade cotton ones ( the kind I wear) only allow droplets to spread 2.5 inches from the person, I feel it is a level of protection for everyone involved. I see fewer and fewer people wearing them. For that reason DH and I have decided not to do take out. We only did it about three times so far, but will continue to eat at home (that is if DH remembers to eat ).

My state has mandated it, but many, many people still do not wear them. No on enforces it.

Our governor

has issued an order that we must wear masks in public. I hope people obey the order because the virus is just now hitting here. I doubt that people will do it though.

Our governor will still not mandate it. He says it is "bridge too far", but apparently the almost 3500 cases we have had today and almost 3,000 cases the previous days is not enough incentive. Savannah went against governor's orders and is mandating masks. Metro Atlanta has cases out of control and still no action. I am so glad I am in Michigan right now. They have a smart governor!! Although many of the citizens complain about her, I always counter you can come to Georgia and enjoy the Covid surge.

I was happy to see our Texas governor will require masks.

Then I just read our county judge wonít enforce it. Some places are rural in our county, but my city has 100k residents and 50+ new cases every day.

Masks

Iím on the other side of the state from you and have been watching this closely. Good for Boise!

I fear my county is getting WAY too complacent. Population about 13,000, 2 positive cases.

But, 1) there is ONE grocery store in our county, the next nearest is 60 miles away. Last time I went, I was the ONLY one wearing a mask - no customers or workers. No plexiglas barriers, cashier belts not being wiped down. Curbside pick up here I come.

2) We are a HUGE tourist destination for outdoor recreation. EVERYONE funnels through that one grocery store.

Thankfully, we are now at our Montana cabin for the next 4-5 months. Much easier to distance ourselves and more comfortable ways to get our groceries.

Good luck, tia!! Will be thinking of you.

That's awesome! I wish they were here too, but only various cities are doing that. Our governor never will!

Our mayor mandated it but won't enforce it.

It's for anyone over 6, so that doesn't help me as a K teacher.

South Carolina is out of control and the governor has no backbone....so we're in the middle of a mess right now. He needs to learn leadership from somebody like Gov. Cuomo in NY.

I live in a high tourist town. Masks are mandated and people visiting are doing great for the most part. However, everyday I have heard of stories where a tourist has to be 'reminded."

It is the least we can do.
