My mom's house sold - step dad saga

Well, I am almost done with it. We signed the papers today! My stepdad was an ass every step of the way . He was an embarrassment to my mom and that's why I didn't want family as a realtor (my dad's cousin) .

My dad knows that was a mistake because even though my stepdad was a jerk, she was not a good real estate agent (only showed the house once, every else was from another company). The pictures of the house were terrible.

My stepdad is just so paranoid and unhappy with the fact he had no control even though we included him more than we needed to (title in my mom's name, I was the executor). He was big on "I have no rights". Well, he really didn't other than we needed his signature on the final sale. He's getting half so I don't know that he is complaining about.

Anyway, this is a huge weight off my shoulders. I think I will invest my chunk retirement.

Hooray! It sounds as if, despite his displeasure, your stepfather did sign the necessary papers. That's a huge load off of you. And you can finish things up now and move on.

I'm executor for my mom's estate. About all that's left is a final tax return and writing checks to beneficiaries for what is left. Most of the distributions were done in January. It feels good.

Dealing with a difficult step-parent after your parent has died is not fun. In my case I'm dealing with a wicked stepmother. I feel your pain. Glad you got it all settled and that it is behind you. Hope your investments have a good return for you in your retirement..

Maybe not . Home inspector found water damage in the basement . If it falls through I cannot deal with my stepfather anymore. Iíll be asking for advice!

I am so glad this is over and done for you! I know it was very stressful. You have gone out of your way to include your SD.

I was all excited for you and I saw your second post. Keeping my fingers crossed it can be worked out and the house is still sold!
