Would you consider small group instructional interventions in reading the same as guided reading?

Thanks!

It depends on what you are doing in small group. Guided reading could be part of an intervention strategy, but reading intervention can be a number of things. It could be phonemic awareness instruction, phonics, scripted programs like reading mastery, lindamood bell, Wilson, etc or ,ore independent programs like read naturally.

I like to think of them as two separate things, guided instruction vs. guided reading.

Guided reading is certainly an intervention, but--

GR is taking a small group to the back table, reading a passage together or silently, then being "guided" through it for comprehension (predicting, confirming, all that).

But there are other interventions. I may take a small group with whiteboards and markers and have them write "hop." Now make it "hope." That sort of thing.

I might take a small group and have them work on short passages. That's an intervention.

I might put my best readers into reader's workshop. That's an intervention.

GR is just one of many different interventions. Certainly, were you doing RTI on a kid, GR is an intervention you could list, along with the others you use.
