I love anything by Barry Lane! He is very practical which I love! Before you buy anything though - check out the site writingfix.org it FULL of great writing activities for all age groups.

I just read Aimee Buckner's book, Notebook Know How. This is an excellent book on how to set up a writing notebook with strategy lessons throughout the book. Another great book is Razzle Dazzle Writing by Melissa Forney. She gives you lessons for 50 target skills with great ideas.

I use anything Gretchen Bernabai and Barry Lane. They are awesome teachers of writing and they have a great sense of humor that gels into their instructional books. Barry Lane's book Hooked on Meaning is great and it comes with a DVD with short mini lessons. My students love them! Gretchen Bernabai has a great blogspot and books that offer great craft writing lessons. She has just come out with a book for grammar called Grammar Keepers and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Good luck!
