I got a sub job in special ed tomorrow-in the resource room at a high school. I have never subbed in special ed before and I am a little nervous. I am wondering if I should cancel it-it would be the first time I cancelled in this district- or should I do it?

Don't cancel it. There are usually paras/instructional aides in special ed and they know the kids and are helpful. I enjoy subbing in sped.

Special Ed is usually a treat, and interesting. And, as above, there will be aides who know what to do better than you...they are always helpful to me.

I agree. Special Ed is one of my favorites. It is always interesting and you will have plenty of help. One of things that always bothers me is how most of these kids will try really hard, but they just can't do it and some of them know it. Then you go into a regular room where you have a bunch of kids with no disabilities and they don't even try. and couldn't care less.

I agree with the previous posters. Special Ed at the HS level is great. And as I've come across so many teens, even in the Honors and AP classes, who just don't do the work or don't care, special ed kids, usually, at least try. For the most part, they still want to learn.

Then again, I've had special ed classes filled with pregnant teens and juvenile delinquents. But it was still fun and interesting!
