About a month ago I received a student who speaks limited english- primary language is Chinese. The student is mainly in my class for reading. I am struggling with what to do with her....we have a specialist, but the student is pulled out during a different subject.

Also, what report cards do you send home for ell students? Are they different? How?

As far as report cards go, it is different everywhere. In my district, up until this year, students received a grade level report card as well as a separate ESL progress report. This year ESL give comments only for each quarter.
You will have to find out what is done in your district.
It is helpful to know what grade you teach because there are different needs at each level.
Is the specialist and ESL teacher? That person should be able to help you out.
Guided reading is helpful.
