I will be teaching a 2nd/3rd grade split next year. I will keep my gifted students and some higher students and will be taking in the gifted 1st graders and higher students. I am at a loss and hoping for some help. If anyone has any ideas, plans, or anything, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I am in the same situation. I have taught 2nd grade for four years, and will be doing a 2nd/3rd split next year. I will have the high 3rd graders and high 2nd graders. I am looking for advice as well!

So far, most people say to do as much together as possible. For subjects with similar objectives, teach the lesson whole group, then have two different levels of independent practice. I think a lot of small group/guided practice is going to be a must, especially in math because the two grades do not typically have the same math objectives. I would love more thoughts and advice!! I wish you luck!
