100 Day Poem with 100 words?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hello everyone,

A few years ago I had a poem for the 100 Day of school that at the end of the poem it said something like "...and this poem contains 100 words."

I have not been able to find my copy for a few years and frankly I miss that poem! Can anyone help me?

My original poem had to do with animals but any poem will do.

Thanks for your help,
apples

100 Is a Lot
100 dogs, 100 cats,
100 heads for 100 hats.
100 women, 100 men,
100's more than 5 or 10.
100 buttons, 100 coats,
100 sails for 100 boats.
100 cookies, 100 cakes
100 kids with bellyaches!
100 shoes, 100 socks,
100 keys for 100 locks.
100 puddles mighty dirty,
100's even more than 30.
100 daughters, 100 sons,
100 franks on 100 buns.
100 trees, 100 plants,
100 picnics, 100 ants!
100 is a lot to count,
100 is a LARGE AMOUNT!
100 kisses, 100 hugs,
100 bats, 100 bugs.
100 bees, 100 birds,
This poem has 100 words!

thanks for the ideas, I teach 6th grade and usually don't do anything for 100 day, but it is Kansas's birthday and so we will celebrate both. I think I will have them try to write the poem.

Is it really 100 words??

I'm not a teacher so I don't know the answer, & my daughter the teacher is already asleep. I'm just doing some computer searches & copying for her. I started to copy this poem and I wondered if there really was exactly 100 words in it. Then I counted only 99! I thought maybe there was a typo, like maybe one of the contractions was supposed to be written out as 2 words, so I looked at other pages from Google, and they were almost always just like cut and paste versions of each other. Finally I have decided that the compound word, bellyache, must count as 2 words. I had some teachers who would have counted it as 1 & some as 2 in college term pappers, & I don't know what word counting functions in Word or other programs would do. So am I correct? If so, when some smart kid actually counts the 99 words and ask where's the 100th one, you can teach a lesson on compound words!! Maybe the author did it on purpose, knowing how sneaky some of my teachers were!

hello, i was wondering if i could use this poem for my 10th grade english project and i thought it would be appropriate to ask for permission to copy it. although it is a little childish for 10th grade, it would suite my project well.
thanks, Dom

I love this poem. You can do a lot with it besides just reading 100 words. The kids will love it.
