What to Wear

I know this is probably a stupid question, but what do you wear to an interview? I've been wearing black slacks, a 3/4 sleeve button down shirt (usually royal blue or purple), and black loafers with hose.

I usually wear dress pants (black), wedges, and a nice shirt with 3/4th length sweater over it. NY&Co is usually my go to store.

Cute dress

I wore a black sleeveless business type dress with a belt that I got several years ago at H&M (they still have it), with black pumps and cute jewelry. The teacher that I now work with actually said that she loved my outfit and it added to me standing out from all of the others. Sometimes if you dress a little boring people assume that you are boring. I am not saying it's right, but it's true. Of course I was not hired because of what I wore but I think dressing a little more fashionably will make you stand out!

For my 1st interview I have been wearing a skirt suit with an A-line skirt and pumps. For the 2nd, I have been wearing black slacks and the 3/4 sleeve button down shirt ensemble. I have gone for 3rd interviews and have worn slacks again.

Good luck.

Subjective

I wear what I feel comfortable in which is usually a nice pair of dress pants and a blouse with a dressy sweater if it is cold.
I wore a pant suit to an interview once and was told by the head of the program that I looked too stuffy and wouldn't fit in if I dressed like that again.

I think what a employer expects has become so subjective it is hard to know how you should dress. I figure if I look put-together and nice I am fine.

I have been to a couple of interviews where I was really surprised to see what the principals were wearing. Sweats and a t-shirt.

Also - I think were you are applying matters. If it is a wealthier school you probably want to dress to the nines. Inner city - maybe not.

I pretty much wear what you've decribed - nice pants and a blouse. I am not a skirt person.
