I know I saw something posted on proteacher but I can't find it. I am looking for an end of the year writing assignment I can hang in the hall. My fifth graders are moving on the middle school so it is a special time for them. Any ideas?

Thanks for sharing!

I love the idea of having the student write a letter to their next yr's teacher. For those of you who do it when does the student give the letter to the new teacher?

Memory Book

I created a memory book when I was in fifth grade. Since I still have it today, I decided it was a worthwhile project to share with my kids. We brainstormed a list of positive school memories and then each student chose one of the topics. I tried not to have any repeaters. Then students worked through the writing process with it. The end result was typed in the computer lab. I displayed samples with a Goodbye headline and posted quotes about saying goodbye. Then as a graduation gift, I am bounding together the students' entries to create a book that they can have as a keepsake

My team member created a brochure for our current fifth grade students to fill out to share with the upcoming 4th graders, and I revised it to meet my needs:
front cover-name, date, year
page one-information about what will be learned
page two-information about class rules
page three-information about me(pet peeves, etc.)
page four-drawings
page five-school info(misssion, colors, mascot)
back page-blank

To go along with our fifth grade silouhettes which will be displayed at graduation this year, my students will write a story entitled, "All I Ever Needed to Know, I Learned at __________ School!" They are moving to the middle/senior high school next year, so graduation is kinda a big deal I hear.
