Any fun kindergarten ideas for teaching push and pull?

Clip to ScrapBook #2

My students love this activity. They work with partners using scooters (square ones with handles) to explore push and pull in our cafeteria/gym. Partner A sits on scooter while Partner B tries soft/hard pushes and pulls to move Partner A and then they switch roles.

Put an item like wood block on a plastic tray. (I used the bottoms of plastic take-out food containers.) Have students try to push the container across the length of a table. Then attach a shoe string or other string to the container. Have students pull the same container across the length of the table. Experiment with different strengths of pushes and pulls needed to move the container longer lengths.

Add a ramp. Have students predict and test to determine if it is easier to push or pull items up/down the ramp.

Add in magnets to have even more fun exploring pushes and pulls.
