So, I'm getting anxious. My actual graduation date was August 07... I subbed for the majority of last year, and now I've been applying like crazy! I've applied online for all of the public schools in the area, and in person for all of the parochial schools. Does anyone have any tips for new teachers? I'm crossing my fingers that I don't have to wait too long.

I'm new to the Rockford, IL area, if anyone knows anything that may help! Thanks so much!

When I first graduated, I applied to any school within an hour from my home in any direction. I even applied to some further away, and considered moving. Keep applying to every school you can, set up informal meetings with principals, call to follow up on apps. as much as possible. Teaching is a competetive field....try as hard as you humanly can if this is what you are wishing to do. I wish you luck. It took me a few years before I got a permanent full time teaching job.
If it gets down to the wire and school is going to be starting soon, and the only options are subbing and teacher's aide jobs, take something to get your foot in the door somewhere.

I graduated three years before I got my first classroom. I ended up taking a teaching job at a local museum. It was a blast! In the long run it was good experience for my resume too because it gave me a unique twist.
