I currently drive 45 minutes each way because its a great district (unlike the one I pay taxes in) and its my dream job. Its a personal decision, but if its what you really want to do- go for it
I enjoy my driving time because I can review the day in my head and work through my thoughts prior to getting home. I don't have kids, BUT I do have a husband and a very active Jack Russell terrier, who both want my attention the minute I walk through the door.
My drive is about 25 minutes each way. On the way to school I run my plans through my head, on the way home I co my coworker friend and vent. Usually I appreciate the time, except in the winter. Luckily I live on a major road and 4-wheel drive helps a lot.
I did. I accepted a position that is 25-30 minutes away on clear roads. It is my dream age group in an okay district. (: In this economy I would be cautious of turning down a job w/in the 30 min. mark but as pp have said; it is your decision. Good Luck!
I am currently driving 35 minutes each way. I find it is a nice time to decompress from the day. 25 minutes for a school I love would be a "no-brainer".
I think most people commute between 25-60 minutes, right?
You just have to make the adjustment with your day and what you may be used to, which you can do!
I live in the country and 25 minutes would be nice!! I'm currently about 45 minutes but I, like a pp, have come to enjoy that time. I go through the day in my head on the morning trip (and sing songs on the radio to wake me up) then I reflect on the day and sometimes calm down before getting home.
Even if the job is a one yr position - an exceptional school and the grade you love - heck yes I'd take it. You never know, you might just shine and blow them away where they have to create a permanant job for ya!!
25 minutes is nothing! I drive 45 minutes to the dance studio I teach at 3 days a week and even that isn't bad. I like the commute because it gives me a chance to sort of relax myself, think about what I need to do for the dance, etc.
Sometimes longer commutes can be really beneficial.
There is no question about the time. If it is a great district....do not even think twice about it. My drive is currently about 25 minutes. Totally worth the drive!
I have been spoiled in the past -- I've never commuted over 15 minutes!
I was really worried about the one year position. It doesn't count toward retirement. Of course, the way I've jumped around following my hubby's job I'll never get to retire anyway!
I do love the district and the administration seems wonderful. Teacher turnover is very low.
They closed a school this year in this district and they had to place all those teachers so there are not many jobs available.
Thanks again for all your posts! (Another great thing about this site -- I can get a reality check when I need one!)
