Does anyone else feel that this year is kind of feast or famine scheduling-wise? I feel like I have an under-booked week, then an over-booked week, then...

I've been getting my jobs the night before I work usually. Two years ago I could find up to 5 or more jobs listed on the computer. Now I'm lucky to find one. Luckily, at 6:30 am I can call the sub coordinator and she can usually get me a job for the day within half an hour.

I'm getting fewer jobs with my main district - the one that gives bonuses, darn it! But a little district (that I worked for 5-6 days last year) has had a job for me almost every day. So I'm glad I branched out.
A few years ago, when I first started subbing there were 3-5 jobs to choose from each day. Some jobs would sit there for days. Not so now. This year I've been taking what I can get.
I also used to not take a job in advance at the secondary district. I would only take a job there if there wasn't anything at my main district for that day. Not so now!
But this secondary district is becoming my favorite.
I figure this famine won't last.

We have been pretty lucky so far. There are 4 regular subs at the school I work in and we have all been very busy this year. I would never wish ill on anybody but I hope we continue to work all year.

Truly I understand feast or famine. Some weeks I have jobs - other weeks - I keep calling and calling sub central and NOTHING. Sometimes though, sub central will call in the A.M. The Sub Coordinators rarely, if ever, give jobs over the phones - it is up to the teachers to go to sub central to make sure of coverage

it's gotten soo bad for me ...I've had to get a 2nd job (Part time) and it's better because it's a steady income...I don't have coverage (my DH does) so coverage is not an issue

what about getting a 2nd job? are we putting those apples into one basket?

Ha ha, I started this exact same thread last year. I think I even used the same title! So obviously I know where you're coming from. But actually, things have been really good here (knock wood) and I've been keeping busy every day...overbooking is a bigger problem than underbooking at this point (knock more wood!).

Yes... this week is great. I have worked every day (and have something scheduled for Thursday and Friday) but 2 weeks ago I only worked 2 days (I stalked AESOP for hours at a time!!)..

This is my famine week. It wouldn't have been so bad but I had jury duty. If I don't get something for tomorrow, this will be my slowest week since school started. Horrible way to end my pay period!

but, because of the flu, swine, bird or otherwise, lots of teachers have been out in the three main districts in which I work. I've been getting calls since the first day of school. No admin wants to hear from a parent about a teacher coughing all over the students, so teachers have been told to stay home if their sick.
