New 5th grade game-MUST play

Ok, are you ready for a new game? It's all the rage in our building.

First: Open the palm of your hand
Second: With your other finger, draw a circle in the palm
Third: Make a fist
Fourth: If you open your fist it means you're gay

The only way you can be "ungay" is to slap a girl on her butt.

Now: Go to the office and be suspended for a day for sexual harassment!

2 days+1 1/2 hours left! ONLY 5th graders would come up with this.

(I won't even tell you what they're planning for the last day, but as a result we are having a "special" lunch and movie in the gym to keep everyone contained and in one place.)

That sounds like something the kids in my class would do! Yup! Definitely a 5th grade game. The butt slapping bugs me less than the gay part. I have had more conversations with kids about using that word as an insult this year than any other.

This might, just might top the little girl who stood and SCREAMED at me for "bein' all up in her face and yellin'"at her for kicking another student today....and then had the nerve to have an absolute temper tantrum and back talk the p.e. teacher when he patiently said, "don't talk to your teacher that way"......interesting as our p.e. teacher is 6'5" and this student is the size of a 3rd grader.....

Suspension??? NO.....45 minutes of the principal discussing better ways to deal with anger and telling her how sad she would be to have to suspend her for carnival day and field day....

WHATEVER.....

I'm so done, and over it....Can everyone say movie day tomorrow???

That is fantastic! That might just become an Olympic sport.

I hope a couple of my boys don't get wind of this game....

When I saw the subject line I was oh cool a new game! Haha - then I read the "game" and prior to getting to the "Now" part I thought this has to be some sort of joke.

The young minds of 5th graders.

Ours came up with a similar game, which they aptly named "Slap Ass Friday". And that was in the middle of the year. So you could only imagine how much more creativity they showed us by the end of the year. I jumped for joy when I waved goodbye for the last time.

Sounds like something the group we have this year would do! Isn't it nice to know that pre-adolescent kids can be so creative and about innane things!

The gay part would upset me too.

This year a few of my students were saying that a girl in the other class was gay, and they weren't going to be her friend anymore. I said "why not?" They said because she's gay.

I then told them that 4 of my closest friends were gay, and it hurt my feelings that they thought like this. They just looked at me like they couldn't believe I had gay friends.

It is very sad to think that they are being raised thinking gay is bad. I teach in a very multicultural school, and everyone is very tolerant of other races, why not that? I think we need to teach tolerance of EVERYTHING more these days!!

I am disappointed and sometimes horrified by the "games" and fun activities that the students dream up... and then I remember the stories of the terrible things that my dad and grandfather did when they were in school. Granted, now our kids do things that are disgusting, degenerative, and downright mean, but, ....

I'd rather not have my chimney stuffed with dead rats, or my outhouse tipped over with me in it, or my car pushed into a pond, or my car carried with me in it into the woods and placed between two closely spaced trees, or see one of the kids coated in cow manure and rolled in the oats, or ....
